I've been looking on Lifehacker to see what kinds of neat things there are out there. I've found some interesting things.

I really enjoy iWork. I find that it suits my design sensibilities (mostly because it uses a sans-serif font as the default font for most things) and it is simple and clean. My only issue is that for Pages, exporting it as a Word doc doesn't always translate the formatting as it was in Pages. I don't know if it is different in '09, but its a minor problem in '08.

@rkwright: Yeah, I do have a lot, but I am finding there are a lot of single applications that have the abilities of a few of the ones I already have. So, it will be thinned down eventually.

I talked to the guy at apple that was teaching on how to use the new iWork 09 and he said it still has that problem with opening up in Word. Not as bad as it was in 08, but still little things here in there. Mostly when using word processing pages with the layouts and such.

I guess that is good to know, but I won't be updating for quite some time. It really is a minor issue that can sometimes be easily fixed, but it is quite irritating.
Well, I used to use it primarily for Keynote. I find kids and even adults pay more attention to you when you have a full media experience going on (with keynote you can seamlessly integrate music and movies from iTunes). Also, I love the transitions and the slides, they are much more "elegant" and and more suited for presentation than PP, in my opinion. That, coupled with how easy it is to learn and use, makes it worth the money to me.

Like I said, I just started using Pages, so I will have to let you know how that works out, if it even works out. I refuse to buy Office again, just because it will not install on my new Mac.
I've used Pages for years and it's fine, if overkill for ordinary plain text. The modern version is a lot easier to use. The older versions have all formatting controls hidden in an information panel... it was baffling at first.

I can't imagine I will ever in my life have a use for Keynote, but I'm glad it's nice!
philothea is dead on about Scrivener (waves at philothea) Its an awesome writing program and its Mac only
hot stuff! :bye:

Oh, I suppose I should have mentioned the iLife components too. Comes with all macs, but sometimes people don't get around to trying them. Both iPhoto and iMovie are nice, but I love Garageband!

And, if you ever have to create a webpage, for whatever reason, iWeb (a new one to iLife 09) is really nice.
