VoTeckam
Cats are territorial, which is why one of them peed in your shoe. (She has two cats, I bet it was the dominate cat that did this.) Do you know why cats constantly rub on furniture? Because they are "marking" it with their scent. Your shoe does not smell like "their" house, it was a completely foreign object, which is why it was urinated on. Furthermore, you yourself were a complete stranger, so they are not going to immediately cuddle up to you. Whenever we have extended family members over my cats turn and run, not to be seen until the company is gone. If the cat is meowing during the night, they want food or maybe they were locked in a room and want out. None of my cats (I have had six total my whole life, not all at once/the same time) have ever howled for no reason during the night. In fact I cannot recall them howling ever. Not sure what you mean by "boundaries." You can most certainly teach cats where they can and can not go! Back in high school my then-boyfriend and his parents went on vacation for a few days and I went over there twice a day to feed their cat. My boyfriend had mentioned that they had very strict rules for their cat and they trained it to stay off tables and counters. I was ASTONISHED when, while pouring the food, the cat - while circling around and meowing at me - never once made the move to jump up, something my cats have always done. It CAN be done, you CAN train cats. It is also a bit far-fetched for you to label all cats as "dirty, worthless creatures" after a perceived bad experience with just two cats. I have never had a dog before. I have only had brief encounters with dogs, some nice and some not so nice - does this mean I am afraid of all dogs, or I hate them? No, of course not, that would be ridiculous. If you think cats are dirty, I am really curious what your opinion is on dogs - they do not clean themselves like cats, they run around in grass/puddles/mud, and they constantly try to lick you. Would you consider them dirty as well?
I know I am wasting my time... just wanted to clear a few things up... 1)The cats moved into my house.. so everything is foreign to them. And they will soon be moving out if they don't stop acting like cats. 2) The cats always have 2 full bowls of food and water. I never let them get low (even though they ar enot my cats) because I don't want to give them an excuse to make that terrible noise. They are also never locked in one room. They are free to roam the house, except for my room (and that is really for their own safety because they would be injured if they woke me up while in arms length). 3) Cats might be able to be trained but these cats are 5 and were never taught a thing so they do what they want... and I hate them for it. 4) I am sticking by my claim that they are dirty. They lick themselves with a mouth that smells like fish. Clean.... right. They also track their litter all over the place which drives me NUTS. I will admit that it was unfair to make a blanket statement about all cats. But one thing is for certain... these 2 particular cats are of the Devil. Geesh.. talking about cats makes me seem like a crazy person. Lets start a thread about a less repulsive animal so I can actually say nice things about one of God's creatures.
1)The cats moved into my house.. so everything is foreign to them. And they will soon be moving out if they don't stop acting like cats.
Okay, this explains a LOT. And yes, they are acting like cats!!! Recall that I said if a foreign object is brought to the house they urinate on it (as opposed to their owner coming home, having been around a friend's cat, the owner's cat will simply rubrubrub to erase THAT scent and mark you with its OWN). So what do you think will happen if THEY are put into a completely new environment?! (With a completely new face, no less.) Frankly, your roommate should have known better and explained to you how the cats would react, so you would have been able to prepare (i.e. spraying citrus cleaner around like I mentioned).
Simply put, they are probably lonely. During the day they basically sleep and during the night they are basically awake. These cats are vocalizing their need for affection. They want to be cuddled and kissed and loved.
3) Cats might be able to be trained but these cats are 5 and were never taught a thing so they do what they want... and I hate them for it.
That is their owner's fault, not theirs.
4) I am sticking by my claim that they are dirty. They lick themselves with a mouth that smells like fish. Clean.... right. They also track their litter all over the place which drives me NUTS.
I have heard that their saliva acts as an antiseptic so technically their spit is clean. Their breath really depends on the food they eat (wet food makes it worse, my cats only eat dry) and the amount of water they consume. But seriously, do you think a dog has better breath?? When I go to a friend's who has a dog I'll pet the dog but I don't let it jump on me because I know its been outside and I certainly don't let it lick me with that big tongue...don't dogs eat their own mushy mud pie sometimes? If you find litter anywhere outside the bathroom, then their paws were wet when they went to the litter. Just be super careful to keep the bathroom floor and sink dry, as well as the kitchen floor (and counters if they jump ). One of my cats jumps into the tub and begs us to turn the faucet on so she can DRINK from the tub faucet, and she is sitting there happy as a clam, getting wet, and having her water. That could be an explanation...not all cats like water though, my baby cat tried imitating the big cat and freaked when a drop of water touched her paw.
I will admit that it was unfair to make a blanket statement about all cats. But one thing is for certain... these 2 particular cats are of the Devil.
Fair enough. It largely depends on the dog. I will think Weimaraners are the most beautiful dog until I die, though.
