Sen. Brownback Supports Sebelius

First, Gov. Sarah Palin appoints a former Planned Parenthood board member to the Supreme Court. And now Sen Brownback is happy as poopp that the very pro-abortion Sebelius is the next Sec of Health.

When news of President Obama’s nomination became public on Saturday, the two senators issued a joint statement describing her selection as "an honor." [/indent]

"It’s an honor for the State of Kansas to have an elected official appointed to the president’s cabinet. We are hopeful Governor Sebelius will be a voice for Kansas and rural America at the Department. We look forward to working with her on issues important to the state including a National Cancer Institute Designation at the University of Kansas Cancer Center."

Sebelius, who has served as Governor of Kansas for six years, was today nominated by the president to serve as Secretary of HHS. Her nomination now heads to the Senate, which will decide whether to confirm the nomination. [/indent]

This a very strange story, I would not expect this from Sen. Brownback. Perhaps the only bright side to this is that Kansas may get a better, more conservative governor.

The small govt, anti-waste, tax-cut, libertarian/conservative, pro-defense, pro-life GOP is dead. They are now the large government, pro-earmark, pro-tax, Statist, abortion-friendly, GOP that will march our troops all over the planet yet leave our southern boarder wide open.

They've been doing one thing very well though. They've been making it clear that there is little difference between the Republican and Democrat parties. They are the same party in practice, if not in fact.

Brownback, and Steele, and Palin have made it clear that I can go ahead and keep voting Libertarian.

Alot of republicans nowadays like you said lounge daddy, are becoming democrats, they think that if they "moderate" they will get more voters. Well that is not what conservatism is about. It's about principle, and a lot of republicans have forgotten that. Rush Limbaugh knows what he is talking about, and I hate when people within his own party try to marginalize him, when he is doing a better job of voicing conservatism than pretty much every elected official/party member in the GOP.

I don't really agree with my senators deciding to give her the yes vote, but something else to think about. . .we're talking about Obama here. There is no way he's going to put a pro-life person in that position. She is no worse than anyone else he would appoint. Putting her in this position gets her out of Kansas (she's not a real Kansan anyway) and keeps her out of the senate in 2010. When she's done with this post, she will have lost her ties to the state, and we can only hope her political career will be over.

Ironic that Romney, who was pro-choice until he had a change of heart, was slammed for that by Brownback. I would say it's far more appalling to run as a hard-core pro-life candidate, and then go the other direction.

Unfortunately Romney has no problem dabbling in Socialism, and we've had far too much of that already. In fact we are way past "dabbling" in Socialism.

My thoughts precisely. There is no way Obama would have put someone contrary to his platform in a position that high up.

I think it's kind of ironic that, just like with Palin, those who extolled Brownback's virtues are suddenly turning their backs.

You can't trust politicians, plain and simple.
