Most phobia type fears are irrational.

One of my big hopes is that we'll be allowed/able to fly in heaven. Like birds! So, no, the few times that I've flown I loved every bit of it, especially the take off, and looking out the window when we'd go over interesting landscapes

I fly so often it's just not true (or so it seems at least). The more I fly the more aware I become of how fragile we are up there. So I too try to go to Confession shortly beforehand and also to ask a priest for a special blessing for my trip.

But I don't think I've ever really been afraid of flying, probably because my first long-haul was when I was five (only time I've ever thrown up on a plane) and you just get used to it after a while. Sometimes I wish that "airport culture" were more "special" to me, but not often - it's still cool :)

My fears of flying are more general. I'm not afraid of dying so much as dying and leaving my children orphans.

If I were to fly with my children (which we haven't), I would fear that something would happen and I would have to QUICKLY figure out how to save them from dying. That scares me more than the idea of dying.

(And yes, I have those same fears about driving.)

As for the actual flight. I like flying.

When I flew back from England, the air traffic controllers were having a staged "slow-down" so after spending like 8 hours over the Atlantic we had to spend several more hours in a holding pattern and we not allowed out of our seats to use the bathroom :sadder:  :annoyed:
So are you? I'm flying tonight to Dallas, then tomorrow to Germany for spring break.

Some time recent, within the past 3-4 years I have become terrified of flying. I have flown a ton over my life, maybe 100-200 times. I feel like my luck is running out.

Anyways, I went to confession and the priest laughed a bit when I said "I'm flying tonight so I'm here in confession..."
i'm not scared of flying, but i am pretty severely claustrophobic and agoraphobic, so planes are usually not the ideal place for me.
