Scared Of Flying?

oh, and i find it just good policy to always go to confession before any big trips (flying or otherwise) course, nowadays, i'm confessing every week it seems!

I'm about to leave Tampa on a plane for DC.

I plan to stare at the wing to keep it on.

Of course, the funny irony about flying is that it is the safest form of transportation, and aircraft engines are known as some of the most reliable machines in existence (so say my engineering friends from college, anyway, and I think they would have to be). Just look at all the airlines that have had [url="http://www.airsafe.com/events/nofatals.htm"]no fatalalities since 1970[/url], including Southwest, ATA, North American, and a number of popular regional airlines.

Certainly looks a lot safer than in Rainman's day.

As for me, I love flying, especially feeling those engines thrust during take off! That's the best part But I enjoy the whole experience... having my little seat in coach, being able to relax and read a book, hope I get to sit next that cute girl over there, and experiencing that little world inside an airport. It feels separated from reality in a way because everything around you is manufactured. Malls usually have some trees and fountains, but at most airports you can only observe God's creation through windows, and perhaps in your food or drink.

The only thing I really hated about flying was the dreadful pain in my ears and the 3-7 days it would take for my hearing to return to normal. My eustachian tubes are apparently too narrow, so chewing gum and those other tricks don't help equalize the pressure. But these goofy lookin' [url="http://www.cirrushealthcare.com/EarPlanes-C8.aspx"]EarPlanes[/url] are just the trick... gotta try 'em if you have the same problem

Me too! I love flying, but take-offs and landings not so much. Mainly because I get a bit queasy then. And I tell ya, flying on a transatlantic flight during my first trimester was not fun.

I live in Brandon, which is just Southeast of Tampa, about 20-30 min drive.

I wrote that message from the airport. When I said "about to get on a plane" I meant it.

Oh get this people....its Friday the 13th, I hate to fly, and when I got to the hotel with my wife, the room number is 911. On Friday, the 13th.

Hmmm.... when we last flew Charlotte was just over a year old, she was pretty entertained by the little TVs, and I brought books and crayons for them. She also slept A LOT (this was a 20+ hour flight). I let them bring some little toys that they like (Polly Pocket type dolls). Just enough to keep them entertained without packing too much junk.
