Grassroots Films, Inc.

Since its founding in 2001, Grassroots Films, Inc. has produced over ten short films and a full-length feature. Based out of Brooklyn, New York, the independent motion-picture company was conceived, in the words of its founder Joseph Campo, to create high-quality films that are “fresh, riveting, and groundbreaking,” using the power of image and sound to “inspire and change the way people see reality.” Among Grassroots’ most acclaimed films are The Human Experience, Fishers of Men, and the recently released The Catholic Vote.

The Catholic Vote was created to encourage Catholics to exercise their civic duty with moral responsibility, prioritizing the essential values of faith, life, and family.
• Grassroots’ latest success, this film was released online in September 2008. Within two months it had been viewed by more than 5 million people and was ranked among the 750 most popular websites worldwide.
• CatholicVote.com was the fastest growing Internet property this October, outpacing major political websites and peaking at 5,000 visitors an hour. YouTube’s ranking of nonprofit and activist films placed The Catholic Vote as one of the top fifty most discussed films of all time, and as the third most viewed film of all time.
• The Catholic Vote has caught the attention of numerous media sources, from the New York Times to the Catholic cable station EWTN. Downloaded 75,000 times and embedded 13,000 times, it has been shown at countless Catholic, Protestant, and Mormon churches, schools, and conferences.

The Human Experience is Grassroots’ first full-length feature. Weaving together interviews and encounters with humanitarian, religious, and academic experts—as well as homeless men and women in New York, orphans in Peru, and lepers in Ghana—the film portrays the beauty of each human person and the resilience of the human spirit.
• Completed in 2007, The Human Experience has been has been lauded as “extraordinary,” “hauntingly beautiful,” and “visually stunning.” It has been viewed by more than 33,000 people, to date, with fifty-nine screenings held throughout thirty-three cities.
• The film has received seven awards thus far, including Best Documentary Feature at the Maui Film Festival and Grand Prize for Best Feature Film at Toronto’s Moving Image Film Festival.
• In response to numerous requests from European groups and individuals, Grassroots Films also plans to bring The Human Experience to Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria, for a fourteen-day tour in early 2009.

Among Grassroots’ other most popular and widely distributed films is Fishers of Men. Fast-paced and gripping, this film takes the audience into the lives of some of today’s heroes: courageous, dedicated, and influential men who have given their lives to the service of Christ in the ministry of the priesthood.
• Fishers of Men, produced at the request of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, has been shown at nearly every US seminary. Over 100,000 copies have been distributed in the US and thousands more are circulating throughout Europe.
• Compellingly described as the best vocations film to be produced in the Catholic Church, Fishers of Men touched millions of youth from every nation with its showing in Sydney at World Youth Day 2008.
• Based on this success, Spanish voiceover and subtitled versions were released in Spain in 2006, and, at the request of the bishops of Germany, plans are underway to release a German subtitled version in mid-2009.

In addition to promoting and distributing these films at home and abroad, Grassroots has an exciting lineup of new projects underway. As interest grows, the company continues to expand rapidly, advancing its mission of providing fresh, riveting, and groundbreaking films.
