Actually it was better in antiquity, in some places. They'd heard of washing more than once a year.

Pretty sure it was the same year everywhere on the planet.

Not sure armed conflict is ever noble. Justified, yes, but not noble.

edit: And, I like not being chattel. I'm picky about that sort of thing.
The Holy Spirit seems to disagree that war isn't ever noble:

"And they heard of their battles, and their noble acts, which they had done in Galatia, how they conquered them, and brought them under tribute" (1 Maccabees 8:2)

Also, slavery wasn't practiced in most places in Europe during most of the Middle Ages...

I'll say now that I'm not spat with you. You're fifteen, with years of experience ahead that may or may not cause maturation of your views. You started this thread with a sweeping generalization. I contributed some as well.

Translations depend on the scholar. Noble acts, in the quote, are not directly, clearly, and incontrovertibly linked to the battles. Formal slavery may not have been practiced, but serfdom was a bloody close substitute.

As a medieval enthusiast I must say that the middle ages were not the best times in history, in some case they were better then ours at the moment. (You have to compare and contrast absolutely everything in a historical, social, economic, political blah blah blah *history student drivel* to get an objective stance on it) The Crusades we should be thankful for as it acted as a pyscological shock to the World of Islam that stalled the Islamic advance across europe,. Read a few history books, the Muslims would've taken over a goodly portion of europe otherwise.

I agree with everyone here that its not something we should long to go back to, (I am of course speaking of the engatives of the time, poor helathcare etc, etc, et bloody cetera), but its something we should be thankful for as the middle ages was in and of itself, progress. From the fall of Rome and the proceeding dark ages. (For those of you who consider my monarchism a hark back to these times, wise up)

Sides, Knighthoods still exist, such as the Knights of St.Columbus, (I think thats what they are called), and still carry alot of the aesthetic appeal one would find in the knights of yore, albeit, watered down a tad, you could always join one when you're older.

I would have liked the middle ages. I could have worn armor like my female ancestors, and then I would straighten out all the cafeteria Catholics at the end of a lance. I think I would have liked battle axes too.
Anyway, I like monarchy and a lot of armed conflict was noble and just (such as the Crusades, at least those which were approved by the Supreme Pontiff). Also Medieval architecture, music and art is so beautiful. Not to mention the fact that the Catholic Church was THRIVING during the middle ages.
1) Most of the nobility were greedy people looking out for their own good, just like people have been for all of time. Besides, a lot of the monarchy was mentally retarded due to inbreeding...

2) Armed conflict is never noble. People die. Their guts spill out onto the ground, and blood spurts out. Corpses rot and smell. It's not noble, it's just war, and according to subject matter experts, war is hell.

3) How do you know what medieval music sounds like? Very little of it has passed down to this age. You may be talking about Baroque music, which I agree is incredibly amazing, but Baroque is not medieval.
