Cut the bottom off a 2-liter soda bottle. but a stopper in the mouth. fill it up with soapy water. Bubble acetylene through the stopper. When you get a nice column of bubbles, touch it with a candle taped to a meterstick.

Cesium is rather expensive.

I almost got hit by reacting sodium on Tuesday.

We were doing a demo with sodium, hydrogen peroxide, and water. He underestimated how well the H2O2 would work, so we got a bit of an explosion with flaming sodium 'shards'. Now there are holes in the floor about two inches away from where I was standing. I'm actually surprised I didn't take any myself, but God knows I would have felt it if I had.

(Our teacher doesn't care about the chem lab anymore, because it's getting renovated this summer. It's a good thing, because the floor looks like it took a shotgun blast.)
