takebacktonight
If you are having some troubles to definitely reach out and get some help whether it be from a counsellor or a doctor. Make sure you doctor will take time to LISTEN to you and not just throw some medication at you. Also, do some research yourself, if you can. If you are under 25 years old there are certain medications that could be harmful, and actually make you feel worse. They carry a 'black box' warning from the FDA. For example, it would not be wise to start an SSNRI before trying SSRI's. Personally, I have had some very scary and traumatic experiences with meds as a result of poor practice on the part of doctors, and I ended up in the hospital. This being said, some people need them and it is nothing to be ashamed of. It is my personal philosophy that if you are feeling bad enough to be on medication you should be in counselling as well. Research shows that the combo works best. From the counselling side of things, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is one of the more effective treatments of unipolar depression and anxiety disorders. When I was in the hospital, I tried to remember that "This too shall pass", and what do you know, it did!

Little things make such a difference. I am able to use a telephone normally for the first time in 18 years. People are still so surprised to hear me pick up the phone, they always ask, "who's this."
