Madame Vengier
I have been looking for an acgtual news source for this because I heard this "story" was an April geniuses joke. Can anyone confirm with authentic news source that this really happened??
homeschoolmom
I had not heard it was downloaded with his speeches-- I think that was a joke. I've heard it contained video of the Queen's visit to Jamestown in 2007. My first thought upon hearing about the iPod... "Isn't that something you get your niece for Christmas or something?" eta: just looked at the ABC link... maybe it wasn't a joke. Should be, though. CatholicCid
At least it wasn't a Video iPod with a collection of the top 25 US movies. I didn't think this was too bad, especially as it mentions she was given "a rare musical songbook signed by Richard Roger". The iPod sounds like a secondary gift compared to the songbook. Considering he got signed pictures in return, it sounds about equal.
Nihil Obstat
I love how so many of the pictures were about him. Seems fitting.
Madame Vengier
The story is real. And I just heard today (but have no link, and thus, no verification) that the Queen herself requested this gift.
CatherineM
The big flap today here wasn't over the gift, it was over the pictures of Michele Obama putting her arm around the Queen. Protocol is that you never touch the monarch of another country. I'm starting to wonder if the Protocol department had a big turn over, or if the Obama's don't want their briefing/input. That's the department in our government that is supposed to brief all diplomats, not just the President and his wife about appropriate gifts and conduct. The whole thing is reminding me of Goldie Hawn's movie Protocol.
Resurrexi
President Bush wasn't much better. He called the Pope "Your Eminence" lol. I have to admit the ipod loaded with showtunes is really corny.

Neither was the brightest bulb. I guess the difference is that W knew he wasn't too bright. I'm just holding out hope that one day I will get to vote for a presidential candidate who is a truly experienced, seasoned statesman, bright, and pro-life. Honestly, "your Eminence" is one of the less well known ones. At least there was some research done. Maybe Obama's plan to save the economy is to sack every White House advisor in the next few months, and use their salaries in the economy.
