Archaeology cat
The big flap today here wasn't over the gift, it was over the pictures of Michele Obama putting her arm around the Queen. Protocol is that you never touch the monarch of another country. I'm starting to wonder if the Protocol department had a big turn over, or if the Obama's don't want their briefing/input. That's the department in our government that is supposed to brief all diplomats, not just the President and his wife about appropriate gifts and conduct. The whole thing is reminding me of Goldie Hawn's movie Protocol.
It's not just a foreigner who isn't supposed to touch the queen - no one is without express permission. Or so I've read, so let me know if I'm wrong, please.

CatherineM
Hah, good idea! I'd go with Catherine, myself.
I seriously hate politics. I'm married to a man who has written a couple of dozen books on the subject, and I infuriate him by my disdain of it. I am taking over as President of the Catholic Women's League at our church in January. That's about as far as I am willing to go in the politics department. I got voted in as president-elect because I didn't show up for a meeting a year ago right after I had dislocated my knee. That will teach me to miss meetings. I do agree that the kind of people who are true leaders, and would make great Presidents, will never run. If this was the year for our first black president, I wish it could have been Powell. His wife wouldn't let him run. She didn't want their lives turned upside down. Can't say I blame her.

Not to mention, he apparently lacks personal conviction and integrity such that he openly supported the likes of Barack Obama. Saint Therese
Saying that Obama is inexperienced and in over his head isn't saying I want Bush back. Neither was the brightest bulb. I guess the difference is that W knew he wasn't too bright. I'm just holding out hope that one day I will get to vote for a presidential candidate who is a truly experienced, seasoned statesman, bright, and pro-life.
He did go to Yale, you know. And I'd say that so far Obama makes Bush look like Einstein.
