Paladin D
Thanks guys. Still in shock a little, been trying to get in for so long, I'm a little weary of being overjoyed right now. I still have a few months, and just gotta becareful that I don't do anything stupid during that time.
Congrats. Do you know when your expected graduation date is?
It doesn't say, but according to my papers, I ship out July 21st but don't start my OSUT till the 31st (so I'm assuming I'll be in reception for about a week). The length is 14 weeks and 6 days, so if you do the math, I should be graduating OSUT roughly Nov. 13th. I apparently start my Airborne on the 16th. EDIT: I found something that says "Out Month: 20091112", so I'm assuming that is when I graduate OSUT, before going to BAT (Basic Airborne Training) on the 16th. It's nice that you'll basically be at the same place for all your training (you'll have to switch barracks but at least you don't have to go halfway across the country for your MOS training). I was asking because I wondered if we'd be at the same duty station for any length of time... we will, but probably not in any capacity that would allow for us to meet you. CatherineM
You'll have to learn how to talk in abbreviations. We sent my son an astronaut pen. Sometimes the only time they got to write was in their bunks to the red exit sign light. It's hard to write laying down with a regular pen. IcePrincessKRS
I didn't get a lot of letters from my husband when he was going through basic, but I wrote to him almost every day he was there. He says it really helped make the going easier. Make sure you give your address to friends and family as soon as you get it; the might not be able to write as often as I did with Matt but getting a post card or short letter can really help brighten your day when it's been a rough day of training. CatherineM
I did the same thing. I wrote a letter everyday, even if it was just to tell him something silly the dog did. On Saturday I also sent a post card with a different picture of home on it, and a list of all the new movies and video games that came out/debuted that week. He was mostly starved for news since they didn't get to watch TV or read papers. He wrote almost everyday, just not to me. Girlfriends you know. Love those. They're so compact and handy too. If you want to swing by Calgary I can get you one at a discount. Lol.

What I did for postcards was buy card stock printer paper, print off pictures of our kids, laminate it with some clear packing tape and then use the backside as postcard (a little ghetto, but it served it's purpose well). That way he got lots of pictures and letters and got to see all the things the girls were doing while we were apart. (Hopefully I'm not hijacking the thread, haha, I just think that it's important for families to keep up with this kind of thing when their son/daughter/spouse/sibling/etc. goes into military training. Our support means a lot.)
CatherineM
Living in St. Pete, I had access to many different views of the city by day and night at 10/$1. Tourist trap, you know. The only one I had made up was of the dog, who I'm embarrassed to say also wrote letters and cards to him.

I found that odd, because I thought you could send pictures. I know I'm going to be extremely home-sick, since this will be my first time I'm truely away from home (moving out). We're supposed to report to our next duty station at the beginning of November. He got everything I sent him, sometimes it was backed up a few days and he'd get more than one letter at a time, but he got it all.
