Yes, I do lump terrorists together with other terrorists. And I don't feel a shred of guilt about it.
Why did you have to Google it, Maggie? The update was already posted here months ago when the guy was caught. And no one said the culprit was a Muslim. It was a theory based on a specific THREAT issued months before the fires. But that's okay, you can ignore that since you are so much enjoying trying to make others look foolish.
I'm sorry :( I don't mean to make anybody look foolish, I'm just having some fun with you, and making a point I think you need to consider, but I'm probably not doing it in the best, most Christian way, eh. But I'll cut it out, sorry again.

My understanding is that members of the intrepid Western press have been in contact with pirates and have had access to them over the phone, even angering them with their incessant questions. Give the current state of journalism it would not surprise me to find that they have not gotten around to asking "why" yet.

You're likely right. This time I was being sarcastic. :)

I'd be interested to know if there have been any good discussions with these pirates yet.
Wow seriously? Criminals are the good guys now?
What happens when the USA, and other Western governments, are acting the part of the criminal?

Western countries are sending ships into Somalia to dump poisonous waste into Somalia--poisoning and even killing Somalis. Anyone they might turn to for help are actually part of the problem.

So the Somalis themselves are acting; by intercepting any oncoming ships, hijacking the ships and turning them away by force.

Are they supposed to just allow this to happen? They have every right to defend themselves.
And again, unlike what the US Government has been doing to the Somalis, the Somalis are not killing anyone.

The problem with that interpretation is that the Somalis themselves seem to have a very different motivation... they aren't keeping hostages and saying "stop killing us or we won't let this guy go!" They demand money and then let the hostage go. It does not appear to be a consciousness-raising exercise.

Last I read the Meresk Alabama was carrying food to Kenya.

Edit: And as I have read these aren't Somali "minute men" charging to defend their country. They're fishermen for hire to the local warlord - seeking to make a buck.

Fishermen trying to make money. Ok...
Still, my point is the rest of the story -- all the Western countries, the US included, have been dumping poisoning and killing innocent Somali citizens. And the vast majority of the ship hijackings have been defense. The majority of the "pirates" are acting as defensive military.

Again, I am just saying that there is more to the story than what we are told. Of course I do not condone violence. But I do condone people defending themselves and their families.

If they see us like monsters, there's a reason. If they assume that every ship in their waters is a threat, there is a reason. Other people are either fishing in their waters (and food is scarce) or are dumping poison in their homeland.

I am honestly surprised that they are not being more brutal.

Simple Fishermen would not go and kidnap another deny him of his freedom, and then demand millions for ransom. These are organized acts of aggression. And anyway we can not do evil so good can come from it. And on that note should we trust or support men that deny other men their freedom at the barrel of a gun?
