This is incorrect. Wiccans who represent their faith community respectably are rare, but they are out there. Unfortunately, it's the most widespread and therefore easily accessible to younger people and others who [i]are[/i] out for pretend.

I would argue Wicca and witchcraft moreso than, say, Shinto. It's the preoccupation with the occult that is sometimes displayed.

I'm not talking about the practitioners, but Wicca itself, which is not a respectable religion, but a large game of pretend made up in the 50's by a doofus--it's not witchcraft and has as much in common with A Midsummer Night's Dream as any real religion. It's asinine, which is why asinine people like Starbutt write asinine letters about fake history. The people are fine, but the "religion" is dumb. It's like Dugneons and Dragons, but without the knowledge that it's a game.

I wish she had read the [i]entire article [/i] and learned about what the Pope was actually denouncing, rather than simply reading the title He wasn't condemning New Age Witchcraft, he was condemning dangerous superstition in Africa that lead to people being killed. In that culture, witches are looked upon as being controlled by demons, performing black magic, etc.

"Witchcraft" means something different in our Western world, but in Africa, it means something evil, controlled by demons. Not chakras, auras, and happy quartz crystals. Goodness

There's real witchcraft and occultism in the West too. Maybe not as prevalent because of the culture, but it's here, and it's dangerous.
