Lil Red
+J.M.J.+ long story short, my hubby and i had to attend another baptism class for our second baby. in this class we had to watch this video from 23rd Publications, presenter was Kathleen O. Chesto. Here's what was presented to us in this video (what we were supposed to "learn"): -liturgy comes before theology -we ritualize before we theologize -those who theologize often infuse meaning that the original participants didn't mean/never intended -we practice - then tradition - then theology -family baptism didn't start until the 4th century -baptism then became about forgiveness of sin in the 4th century instead of a ritual welcoming adults into a Christian life (it did say that the catechumenate process was much longer for those wanting to join the Church because they wanted to make sure they weren't Roman spies). -St. Augustine introduced/invented the doctrine of original sin theology - he didn't know enough of the Church's history to know that we hadn't always baptized infants. -for the next 1500 years, that's what the Church taught -St. Augustine taught that unbaptized babies went to hell -then Church theologians/popes/whatever taught that unbaptized babies went to limbo -the 'outside the Church, there is no salvation' isn't really taught -God doesn't need our sacraments to save us, we need them to participate in His love -Vatican II changed all the wrong theology -Baptism is a model to raise your child in the faith - a ritual. Brother Adam
Yikes! I'm sure you informed the teacher that she/he is teaching heresy. I had previously thought 23rd publications was an orthodox publishing house.

Brother Adam
That's the story of our life No really, if all we can accomplish as orthodox catechists is to reform catechesis in the US in our lifetime, that will have been a monumental accomplishment. Theoketos
My pastor made my wife and I go to the Baptism class (we both have advanced degrees in Theology) for the sake of our souls in that it would be penance. The video we watch contained no Heresy, unless you could wussy looking liturgical vestments and altars. I will ask about the name and report back. Edit My does not remember either.
