I am already planning on doing some volunteer work, partly for the reason you suggest. I know CLEs can be super expensive.
Another cheap way around CLEs is to teach one. You get the same credit for teaching as you do for taking, but you get paid instead of having to pay.

homeschoolmom
I am one 30-page paper, three written finals, and one oral exam away from being DONE with law school! I had my last class this afternoon and I am now in the home stretch. I opted to finish up my master's in Catholic Studies next semester; I just couldn't do the paper and get it reviewed and graded and presented still this semester. Too much happened and I was too far behind. It'll be a better paper if I wait to finish it, and I can still graduate and get the J.D. and take the bar this summer. I can hardly believe it's almost done, and I can hardly believe all the stuff that has happened since I made the decision to start law school. I moved to MN, made new friends, lost friends, worked a couple of jobs, moved twice, met a guy, fell in love, planned a wedding, got married, bought a house, and am almost done with a J.D., and one class short of the M.A. What a trip. God has been so gracious to me through the whole thing, and I know he'll continue to provide grace as the journey enters a new phase.
I told you you'd make it after all. I wonder what else I've missed....
Thanks, Marielapin! A lot has changed in the time I've been on PM. It's pretty amazing what can happen when you are open to God's leading -- things I would have never predicted. There was a time that I swore I would never move north (I don't like winter much) and I would always live in an urban area. Now I live in Minnesota and am married to someone who will never move (so I probably won't either because I like having him nearby). And we just bought a house that is definitely suburban, and almost rural. We have deer in our back woods, and a wild turkey just ran past my window. My husband is an electrical engineer and runs the family business making electrical converters for military trailers. He was running it out of his house until last fall when we ran afoul of city ordinances. We started looking at houses after we got married and the second house we found was a perfect fit. It is almost 8,000 square feet, 4,500 of which is unfinished so he can finish some of that out to accommodate his business needs. Also the ordinances here are less restrictive as far as home businesses. The house is on about 9 acres, bordering a lake and a nature preserve. So even though we are relatively close to the cities (25-30 minutes from either St. Paul or Mpls) we basically live in the country. It was a fantastic price, too. We bought it from an estate, and the heirs just wanted to get rid of it by the time we came along.

Plus that house is huge! Its a good thing that you won't have to clean the whole thing. I'm married to an engineer too. They make great husbands, and can fix lots of stuff. lol

We complement one another well, and I never have to worry about car problems! Plus I love how linear he is in his thinking and emotions. He's so straightforward about what he's thinking and feeling. I love not having to guess ... makes me feel so secure. I'm guessing your guy is somewhat similar?
