But I do have to say, the guy intoning "One man and one woman" came off as cult-like. Just the way he sounded.

I think it is true that there would be less tolerance for something like this if it had been done to a Torah or Koran and not the Christian Bible! But Jesus did tell us that the world would hate us because it hated Him.
