puellapaschalis
Today is Queen's Day (Koninginnedag) in the Netherlands; the birthday of the present Queen's late mother. Tradition has it that the Royal House visit a village and a city somewhere in the country, walk around, meet people, do lots of waving and smiling, and the whole country has a day of to relax and have a good time. This year the RH would only visit a city - Apeldoorn - and instead have a small walkaround later today near one of the royal palaces. In Apeldoorn the RH was travelling in an open-topped bus amongst the crowds when a black car - already visibly damaged - drove straight through the assembled crowds, in the direction of the RH's bus, and then swerved into a big monument by the side of the road where the RH's bus was travelling. The RH is, from what you can see on tv clips, unharmed (there was no contact) but shocked. Latest reports say that 14 people are injured; 3 are being (or have been) reanimated. The driver of the car has been cut free and taken to hospital. I haven't checked this link (my macbook won't cooperate), but it's a clip of what happened. There were loads of tv cameras around - Queen's Day is a Big Thing here. This is a pic of the car as it went by. The rest of the day's official programme has been cancelled. The RH is back at the palace (Het Loo) and the news that everything has been called off has just been broken to the public gathered there. Please pray for all those wounded, that no-one loses his life, and also for the police and other emergency workers who are caring for them and managing the situation. Please pray for all of us: Koninginnedag is a (perhaps the) major public holiday in the Netherlands, and for those in Apeldoorn it's ruined their day. UPDATE: I've just heard that 8 of the wounded are still lying on the street where it happened. One of them is a child. No news yet of any deaths. Please pray.

puellapaschalis
Reports say that one person has died, but this has not been confirmed. Another report says that between the two crashes, the driver of the car was shot by police, and that was why the car veered so unpredictably through the crowds. Please keep praying. Brother Adam
Almighty God and Father, bring swiftly home those who were killed and watch over those who were injured, especially any children, the most innocent among us, may your Mother, our Blessed Virgin, watch over them. Hail Mary...
