This particular variety H1N1 is new and unknown and has not been previousy detected anywhere in the world. There are 278 confirmed cases with 4000 possibles worldwide.

I think some of you are getting it wrong. After speaking to a nurse today she states it is a type A strain droplet virus meaning it is not airborne but spread by saliva or any other secretion which makes it no more contagious than any other flu.

I think it's a bit strange that antibiotics cannot do any good for a normal flu but they're dishing them out for this swine 'flu'.

Oseltamivir and zanamivir are antivirals, not antibiotics. It is resistant to amantadine and rimantadine. Antibiotics are used only if the patients gets a secondary infection such as pneumonia.

On the news last night there were school kids who had been given a/bs...I thought it was weird.

Oh good, another school is giving out Tamiflu. At least they've got it right lol.

There was a story last night about a Minnesota school that is closed (because of a supposed swine flu case). They said that even though school was closed, people were at the mall, at the playgrounds, going to movies etc. There is no way to force people to stay in their homes without martial law. Common sense is not all that common.

It's safe to go out if people sanitize their hands and cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough.

As long as no one sneezes or coughs into someone else's face (or in a closed space like an elevator), hand washing is enough.
