Memo To All Priests About The Flu

fides quarens intellectum

This morning before daily Mass, the priest made an announcement, pretty much saying:

"Last night, all of the priests in the United States received a memo: Communion should be distributed under one species. I will not distribute the cup, nor will I distribute Communion on the tongue, and I would ask that you not hold hands during the Our Father."

I'm rather curious to see what the actual memo said and who sent it; AmPap and the like don't have it up yet, so i haven't found it.

Anyone have a copy of it? Fr. Pontifex or one of our other resident priests?

Thanks!

StColette

The priests at the parish where I work received word from their Bishop last night that during Communion we are to not distribute the precious blood. They did not mention anything about not being able to receive on the tongue though.

Cardinal DiNardo has instructed our diocese to offer communion in the hand, no chalice.

Communion in hand only at Mass. One species. No shaking hands at the sign of peace. And lots of hand sanitizer at the door ;)

We still had the sign of peace but we did not have the Precious Blood.

We had the sign of peace, but we were told to wave or just say it, and not to shake hands...

not only did we still shake hands... the altar servers still went up on the altar to hold hands with the priest during the Our Father (drives me nuts). most of the congregation also holds hands. luckily I sat by an old woman today - neither of us even hinted at wanting to hold hands during the Lord's Prayer... but we did shake hands during the sign of peace.

By saying we had the sign of peace, I meant that were not given any special instructions for it. Didn't realize I didn't clearly say that.

I noticed a few of the EMHCs going to the back for the hand sanitizer before going up to the altar.

Actually there was a statement read at Mass; and the website for my diocese had a statement on it with the temporary restrictions (communion only in the hand, one species, use of hand santizer by those who distribute communion, and that those with the flu were not required to go to Mass [although by default if you're sick you don't have to go to Sunday Mass but I guess they wanted to make that clear]).

And I almost forgot --- sign of peace without touching, and not to hold hands at other points.

apparently my bishop made a statement that we WERE to still distribute in both species. If an individual person wanted to refrain, they could. The EMHC's had to use hand sanitizer, though.

speaking of, i was not a fan of how my priest did it. I was still rubbing in the sanitizer and was turned to the side and he said "the body of christ" while i wasn't even paying attention.

i wasn't a fan of that.
