Memo To All Priests About The Flu

They read a statemet that said "Consider receiving in the hand... consider not giving the sign of peace.. etc." And Communion was offered only under one species.

I'm not a fan of this "only communion in the hand" thing-- I understand the precautions and what not... but... I don't know. This rubs me completely the wrong way. And I got denied communion on the tongue on Sunday, even though the statement was "consider receiving in the hand".... and I ended up being told I could not receive unless I received in the hand.

Maybe I shouldn't be upset about that, but... you know, the Church went through many, many, many years where there were different flu/sicknesses going around... I don't know.

I was upset.
The "no holding hands" part sounds good.
i agree.
Cardinal DiNardo has instructed our diocese to offer communion in the hand, no chalice.

not only did we still shake hands... the altar servers still went up on the altar to hold hands with the priest during the Our Father (drives me nuts). most of the congregation also holds hands. luckily I sat by an old woman today - neither of us even hinted at wanting to hold hands during the Lord's Prayer... but we did shake hands during the sign of peace.
So... Communion in the hand only, no chalice, but go ahead and hold hands/shake hands during the other parts anyway?

So, it turns out the memo was just for our diocese - i don't know why that priest said it was the whole country.

-no chalice
-Communion in Hand should be "encouraged" <_<
-no hand-holding/shaking hands

We had an announcement before Mass. It reminded us that reception of the Host only was complete and we need not receive the Precious Blood (though it was offered). We were also told that if we wanted to, we could refrain from shaking hands and could instead make a bow of the head during the sign of peace. I think that was it.
