Swine Flu

so we have two unconfirmed cases of swine flu at my college. which means the carnival we were supposed to have today is canceled and so is everything until sunday. if they are confirmed positive we prolly wont have classes all week.

i think this whole thing is stupid. yes people should be informed about it and if they have symptoms they should have it checked out but to cancel everything??? i just think its silly. a lot of ppl die every year of the regular flu, just take some precautions but to cancel everything??

our school is now losing about 80,000 dollars because Ludacris was going to have a concert this evening and now we had to cancel him.

It's stupid until you and most everyone else there has it too... No, it would be stupid to say it's too late to do anything.

im not saying its stupid to try and prevent it but come on, they are prollly shut my school down if it confirmed, its stupid. use common sense and those with symptoms get tested. its not a deadly thing although it can be. if they are gonna shut the school dont for swine flu why not the regular flu? because that kills more ppl in the US every year compared to swine flu so far

i'm just saying that i think its a waste. i think they should inform ppl to go to the nurse if they have symptoms but its pathetic to shut everything down. i think it is the governments way of taking our minds off the economy...

im gonna get murdered for that comment hahaha

Yeah... they confirmed 3 cases about an hour away from here.

Our bishop wrote a letter about how to "receive communion. And nothing else." he told us that at the sign of peace people should simply glance at each other. It was kind of funny. I can't lie.

i think it's sad when a parish decides NOT to have Mass this weekend because of this "outbreak."

Paranoia gone awry...

I live half an hour from NYC which has had a bunch of cases, and from what I know so far there has been one case in my county. So people here are being cautious, one co-worker was saying during our dinner break that earlier she saw a child in a face mask. If the parents feel that is so necessary, the child should be HOME.

At Mass today we were told to nod during the Sign of Peace and not shake hands (apart from family at least).

Edit - The parking lot was EMPTY (although a lot of people park along the street)...not sure if that had to do with this flu or the rain (people just tend not to come in rain and snow).

LORF!

We had to do the head-nod thing too. Everyone was kind of grinning 'cause it seemed odd somehow. I accidentally commented out loud "hey at least this way, we can reach more people!" I hope Father didn't hear me

One guy decided he would give the sign peace by doing the 'peace sign' to everyone :hippie: He's kind of odd anyway :lol_roll:

I guess it would depend on whether or not the virus hit the parish, and if the parish community is very close knit. I actually appreciate the "paranoia" -- I don't have health coverage (yet) and if I got very ill I'd be in trouble.

The priest at mass here on Sunday basically said the first part, "may the peace of the Lord be with you all," but then didn't say the part after that. There was an awkward silence, and then went right into the Lamb of God.
