Well, I was just going to say, the only time I ever encountered a "rude" European was in....yes, Italy.

I found them to be either really rude, or really nice. No in-between with them.
same here.
Cool! Does her complexion happen to be dark? I guessed that she had to be a Catholic from the east part of Africa.

The woman I saw was wearing a black full length Niqab like garb.

Yes! I knew she had to be some sort of eastern rite Catholic and my first thought was that her clothes were cultural and not so much religious!

I did a google search for Geez rite, and found this Church:

http://kidane-mehret.org/desk1.html

It looks like the the Geez rite is of Ethiopian origin and is of the Alexandrian rite:

<a href="http://www.mncuf.org/rites.htm" target="_blank">http://www.mncuf.org/rites.htm</a>

I think that this may be her if she's a londoner and wears black clothing. Is she stand offish when strangers query her religion or Catholic rite?

Just so you know, I think the Church I saw her in was in Kingsley or somewhere else in North London. It was the Day With Mary a few weeks before the one held in Westminster Abbey.

PS- If she happens to stumble upon this thread somehow, I hope she doesn’t think I’m stalking her. Her appearance, not only attire but facial features, are just very striking, in particular when contrasted amongst a group of people who were wearing dull winter/autumn coats.
Lol. You know I think people who know her well or even the lady herself may actually stumble upon this site. In which case, :welcome:

There are a Gheez Masses in Notting Hill, by Holland Park tube station, at St Francis of Assisi church. I love how they also come to Mass at Westminister Cathedral, one big pham.
It sure would be cool if people talked about me on the internets like that.

"Who was that scrappy looking blonde girl at church with the jacket with the little skating hockey penguin on the back? She was stunning!"
LOL. And she is a stunner. See you later on, Ashers.

She's a devout Catholic and that's her style :) She likes saint bracelets a lot, too. Nice to see another UK PMer.
But maybe that's who she was.
Hmmm... somehow I don’t think the Virgin Mary would turn her back on me if I asked her if she was Coptic... :bigthink:

Plus, a ray of bright light was not being emitted from her garments. lol

Very true, I don’t disagree. I’ve seen people, in particular in central London, wear from practically nothing to spikes protruding from their head to bright feathers.

It just so happened that someone who was dressed noticeably different was in mass, whereas the rest of us looked rather droll and average.

By the way, when you say that you might wear a robe, I take it don't you mean a bathrobe/nightime robe, or the robes people wear in their homes?

(You really don't want to repeat the Michael Jackson's court appearance look. lol)

It’s cool. Trying to convey one’s feelings via words over an internet board can prove to be a difficult task.
Baguettes? Is there an Italy-baguette connection?

I just came back from my favorite Italian bakery. No baguettes though, got some fresh polenta.
My bad. I thought for a second that baguettes are a popular food in Italy- but it is in fact France.

Maybe I should have said that there may be something in their spaghetti?...

But then again, spaghetti/noodles really originates from China...

Pasta, perhaps?
As another ex-pat sticking her nose in, I've frequently had "issues" (nothing too bad) being an American in Italy. For the most part, I don't have too many difficulties- but that's because I speak the language.... I've been cursed at on the street (actually, more than once) by someone who heard me speaking English that it was US's (aka Bush's) fault that Italy is having such a bad economy.
What has Bush’s policies got to do with Italy’s economy?

For real, non American’s (and that goes not only for Italians) seem to blame most- if not all of their woes on Bush/republicans/ America, when there is not even the slightest relation.

The one thing that I will hold America responsible for and never will forgive your country for, is her spawning of Al Gore who later went onto invent man made global warming.
In other regards, though, I can see where and why Americans get a bad stereotype here...I live with American college students who are here to [s]party[/s] study abroad and frequently see/hear other"obnoxious Americans" here in restaurants and other public venues.

Glad to hear it's not such a problem elsewhere, though!
British students are just as vile. Not to mention that they drink excessively- more than any other nationality I’ve come across. It is one of the reasons why I don’t drink myself- being thrown in the demographic of people who literally “drink to get drunk” is embarrassing.
A Muslim comes to Mass with me almost every Sunday and Holy day of obligation. Please pray for my hubby's conversion- or rather return to Christianity. Thanks.
I will keep your husband in my prayers.

What religion is he now a part of?

Church in Notting Hill and Holland Park, you say?

Well, I’ll have to prepare my binoculars and camera. I just have to make sure I can find a good angle from behind any nearby bushes...

Just kidding. :biglol:

Heh heh.

Careful, or you’ll be next on my “to stalk” list. The Netherlands isn’t that far away, you know...
