ReinnieR
I just thought we needed to update our old poll.
Apotheoun
I voted for "First Contact," but I would have voted for "The Wrath of Khan" too, i.e, if the poll had distinguished between the feature films with the original crew and the TNG crew.
Apotheoun
The new Star Trek film, as a reboot of the franchise, should have been placed in a separate category.
ReinnieR
still part of the franchise no matter how much we don't like the whole reboot idea.

Whether it is a part or not is up to the individual viewer. What is Paramount going to do, sue me for not holding that the new film is part of the 43 year old Star Trek story? Not A Mallard
Star Trek versus Star Wars: I like them equally but I voted Star Wars Favorite Star Trek movie: Star Trek (2009) but if there were multiple choices I would've voted Star Trek, First Contact, and The Undiscovered Country Favorite Star Wars movie: The Empire Strikes Back
MithLuin
I prefer Star Wars, so I see Apo's point - not everyone has to take Star Wars: An Ewok Adventure seriously, and in fact, few do. Or the novels. Or the animated Clone Wars. Or the video games. Or the comic books. They all take place in the Star Wars universe, and are officially sanctioned, but that doesn't mean fans need to accept them. And there are probably people who do not consider the prequel trilogy to be part of Star Wars, either - they liked the original trilogy, and that is the story to them. Star Trek is also a spralling franchise, so you can pick and choose. I was only interested in The Next Generation and the movies. I saw maybe one episode of DS9, a few more than that of Voyager, and a couple of the Original series. I've never seen an episode of Enterprise, and don't plan to change that. I don't think I ever watched Nemesis, either. Recently, I've been watching the original series, since they're all available online (free and legal) - check youtube or cbs or veoh. Each new incarnation has its fans and detractors. You can pick what you like and ignore the rest. I consider the 'reboot' to be a new incarnation, just as TNG, DS9 and Voyager were. The only people who care about 'canon' within the story are fans, and there are many nuances to what counts and what doesn't. Since the reboot establishes itself as an AU of the original series, it takes place in parallel to the original storyline. It does not replace it, nor does it match it. Star Trek has always incorporated parallel universes. There was a TNG episode where Worf bounced around to a zillion different Enterprises - in one, Troi was his wife, while in another, the Borg had all but defeated the Federation. And 'Mirror, Mirror' in the original series showed an alternate reality where the Federation was the Empire, and much more warlike and barbaric (Spock was mostly the same, but with a gotee). And there was the storyline with the Enterprise C, variations of which resulted in Tasha Yarr's half-Romulan daughter. And according to Memory Alpha, there was a DS9 episode about some sort of alternative timeline as well. For obvious reasons, all of these were sidelines and the point was to get back to the 'real' time and story. This allowed the crew a glimpse of the alternate reality, but the show went back to normal the next week. This reboot is just following the parallel reality instead. If they really wanted to, they could even work on getting back to the 'real' timeline in a future movie (though I seriously doubt that is their intent).
