I am a HUGE Star Wars fan..so much so that I generally considered Trekkies (or as they call themselves-Trekkers) the enemy. However-and I am becoming a traitor every second I think this-I thought the new Star Trek movie was AWESOME! It was really amazing I thought. Alternate storylines don't bother me in the least. And I think that, at times, they are necessary. But, I'm still a Star Wars geek.

it wasn't necessary for the trek universe.

they can do so much more than restart.

after nemesis they could've followed Riker on the Titan.

Maybe Chakotay as the New Captain of Voyager.

They can maybe expand on B-4 having Data's memory restored. and a story with him being 1st officer of Enterprise-E

They can do a story where they find some surviving embryos from the time of Dr. Arik Soong. Have a pro-life movie and having doctor Bashir not wanting to kill these embryos having been genetically enhanced himself.

The episodes are not split up over multiple files, and the video quality is decent (unlike most youtube videos). The only problem is that the audio is very quiet, so the ads (hey, that's what you get for free access) are blaring loud. The most comfortable way to watch the episodes here is to click through all the commercial breaks on mute, then go back and turn the volume all the way up to watch the episode uninterrupted. (Each ad is 15-30 sec. long, and each episode has one at the beginning and end, and three scattered throughout. All in all, not too bad.)

I have no idea about the downloading, but I suppose you could try. As long as you aren't distributing it, it's not that big of a deal...I mean, they're putting it up for you to watch anyway.

The same videos are available at these sites:
Star Trek (TOS) on Veoh

Star Trek on CBS

They may limit this to US residents only.

Now that I've watched the original episodes of Star Trek, I think I am less comfortable with this movie not allowing anyone to even try to go back in time and save Vulcan. I mean...they are apparently quite adept at the slingshot-around-the-sun maneuver, having used it on purpose in "Assignment: Earth" and The Voyage Home, and by accident in "Tomorrow is Yesterday". Given that...surely the 'redo' option is valid.

That being said, I was impressed with this movie allowing the consequences to stand. The easy out, so that no one need face death or destruction, is one of the weaknesses of Star Trek....but a quintessential element of Kirk's personality. To have him demonstrate that in the Kobayashi Maru, but not in dealing with Vulcan leaves a gaping hole. This Jim Kirk has suffered loss and come to accept it a bit more. I think that this movie tried to be The Wrath of Khan a bit too much, but in general, I think there is a lot of good stuff.

I got into Star Wars first, but I have taken an interest in Star Trek as of recent. I'm the worst heretic of them all 'cause I see merit in both franchises. They all have characters you can relate to.

i guess i'm a heretic too. i like star wars and still do, but it doesn't compare to over 700 hours worth of entertainment. hands down star trek rules all.

Why would you watch ALL 700 hours? Doesen't that get... dull? :getaclue: Think about how much time you could have spent doing other things. (Unless you were REALLY board, that's okay then)

Not hatin', just callin' em as I sees em.

Star Trek always had a few turkeys ("May That Be Your Last Battlefield," comes to mind), but a 75% score over all ain't bad. And hey, at least none of Star Trek featured Jake Lloyd.

But it's hard to beat Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon-Gin.

And besides, Star wars got an emoticon :starwars:

I don't see a star treck emoticon.... :saint:

Star Trek ceased to exist after Bones and Mr. Scott took up fishing in their retirement on the shores of Lake Gitchigoomie.

For me, all other iterations Next Gen, etc., etc., etc., are only wanna-be's with precious little reason to exist.

Yup, it's good to be geriatric so that the youngun's will not abuse me too badly...
