CatherineM
My issue is definitely the honorary degree.
jeffpugh
I think the irony is what the degree is in...
KnightofChrist
Tomorrow Notre Dame loses a big chunk of her soul.
isilzha
People have been asking me that and I came on here to see what you guys had to say. Your answers were basically the answers I came up with, thats what the bishops are for and the American Church is a small part of the larger church. I saw on Drudge Time Magazine wants to know why the Pope isn't involved. Could you imagine what they would say if he actually had involved himself? I wonder why no one has started a thread about the protests today.
Norseman82
I think the Vatican already has spoken on this issue - by issuing Ex Corde Ecclesiae in 1990 (give or take a year). What I'm going to be looking for is what sort of "clean-up" will occur. I know from observing Cardinal George's placement of priests in parishes that sometimes the cogs of Church bureucracy move slowly, yet methodically to correct problems. LouisvilleFan
Nobody here is talking about it either... it was just yesterday, and apparently it's old news. There were some very interesting Gallup Poll results mentioned in the Associated Press articles, for those who bothered to read.
Thy Geekdom Come
The Pope has too much else to do. There are issues of dissent happening all over the world all the time. It may seem like a big deal here, but the Pope and most of the Church aren't getting things like Cardinal Newman Society emails everyday, etc. Second, it worries me that so many Catholics seem to want Notre Dame's blood. There are a million good things going on at this university. Stripping it of its Catholic status would alienate a huge number of students and faculty studying not only theology, but a number of other disciplines in service to the Church. I am happy to have the support of so many outside Catholic and pro-life groups, but I don't think they always accurately portray our university and some of the efforts have been detrimental to the students cause here on campus.
Long time, no see.
