Socrates
Ok, here's the deal. Crazy as this may be, I'm moving down to Dallas (well, Irving specifically) at the beginning of June to be with my beautiful Bubblicious baby and start biz school at UD. I was wondering if any of the Pham in the Dallas are would know of any leads regarding jobs (even if part-time or temporary) and/or inexpensive temporary housing in the area. Any information, possible leads, or contacts would be appreciated. Thank you all for your help, and keep us in your prayers. ~ Soc

CatherineM
Having made a big move for love, you certainly have my prayers. My brother works at IBM in Dallas. At least I think it's still IBM. It was RCA then GE then IBM. He is in charge of the section that sells service contracts for computer systems for large companies, like the reservation computers for Hertz. He gets called when the systems crash. If that's something you have a background in, I can ask him. I also have a niece who owns a beauty shop in Carrolton. I'm guessing you probably don't do hair though.
rose wrought of iron
Dude that's awesome! Texas is so great and you'll love it - besides the obvious reasons... And UD is an awesome school - my sister wanted to go there but she got a better scholarship for UTA so she's going there instead. Good luck! What area should this job be in? Because I really don't know if I can help you there... Positively frightening...not that I'm really one to talk. Edited May 20, 2009 by rose wrought of iron

And I can do anything involving writing, though I realize such jobs are harder to come by. Thanks for the response! Maybe we can hang out sometime. Congrats on the relocation and being close to your lady! I bet you'll like the north TX area and UD is an awesome school. (I'm kinda sad that I just moved away from there, I could've met more phatmassers!) I know a ton of people that work in that area...I'll let you know if I hear of any leads ok? Good luck and God bless+
Theoketos
The apartments across the street from UD are called Tower Village. They are as cheap as you are going to find in Irving. (The UD bubble calls them Old Mill). There are also Condo across the street. They are much nicer, but you need to know some one from U.D. usually to get in on them. To do that I recommend that you email your professors. Seriously. Also, there are a ton of service industry jobs in Dallas. But the Biz school is usually really good at hiring you out as an Intern. Jobs at U.D. are sparse and competition is tough. On a side note, you pretty much want to stick with the Cistercians for your Spiritual needs. Email me if you have more questions. (Don't listen to anything dUSt says about my driving. His story was a LONG time ago. Hurumph.) As far as jobs are concerned, Soc, I'd look into the service industry here. Lots of jobs at hotels; turnover is usually high which means if you're looking to get in, you probably will. James suggested something good for you for housing. I don't much about the Irving area or what you consider "cheap" but if you want to PM me, I can suggest something "close" and "affordable." (If you really want my advice, I say you crash on dUSt's couch. And he could probably put you to work babysitting and .. cooking? I don't know. Something...) Sojourner
Soc! So glad to hear things are going well for you. I can't offer much in terms of advice about living in Dallas but I will be praying for you guys as you make this big step.
Winchester
In spite of using sock hoods, DFD is a well organized department. Fort Worth has white apparatus, but there's a reason, so it's okay. Austin--again the sock hoods. Move to Houston. You're going to have to come visit me, anyway.
