homeschoolmom
My commencement speaker spoke about three great ceremonial events in our adult lives: college graduation (which I was sitting at at the time) wedding (I was already married) funeral... ( ) Other than that, I have no idea what he said.
Archaeology cat
I don't remember anything about my commencement speaker. I'd had maybe 2 hours of sleep because I'd gone to the midnight showing of The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King the night before (I graduated in December). And then I was rather giddy at seeing DH before going in (we weren't dating yet at that point).

Rather, Commencement is a time to celebrate the academic achievements of our students.
I admire the attempts to make such a statement for life, but this quote sums it up the best, in my opinion.
I agree. It is sad when the administration of a school chooses a speaker who causes scandal. Edited May 21, 2009 by Apotheoun
MithLuin
The administration of this school didn't choose a scandalous speaker! They invited someone from CRS to give the Commencement speech. I have to imagine that this is a result of ND choosing Obama - students of this school wanting to say, hey, I don't know about them, but we're pro-life...and other students saying 'no we're not' so that the administration said, you know what, graduation is not the forum to discuss this in!
