The same here in NC. You had to smile although I think that is about to change. When I was working for UPS we had to tell people no smiling. It was passport photo rules here in US.

Yeah, i worked for citizenship and immigration canada, and if the photos were the wrong size, or they were smiling/frowning, or if they didn't sign their name, or if their signature went outside of the little white box, or if they weren't stamped or if they were wearing a ball cap or if they were blurry...we had to send them back...

Another thing too, I would imagine, is that officials tend to respond more favorably to a person who's is smiling vs. a person who is frowning, so a neutral facial expression would help eliminate that kind of bias...

You worked for CIC?!! I, shouldn't say anything right now. I'm sure you were conscientious and competent, and charitable. My mother always said if you can't say anything nice, not to say anything at all. Besides, I wouldn't want to be publicly quoted saying too much against CIC since I am eligible to file for citizenship in September, and don't want that to go as awry as my PR application did.

I'm smiling in my recent picture, but I hadn't showered. I went in to get a new license after getting married and didn't realize I would have to get a new picture. They made me take off my hat. :ohno:

i have to agree on the DMV on this one...

i have never smiled for my driver's license, passport, university identification card, etc.

When it comes to official documentation, looking serious is more professional for me than looking like a beaver dam grinning fool....

I save the grins for the family album, and my profile pics! :D
