StMichael
Need help here, today is the first time in my life that I have left mass. This took place as armies of so-called Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist gave out the Body of Christ while the Priest did no participate in this role. Instead he went off to the side to only give the Blood of Christ. This was all followed after the readings were switched (second read first). The priest had no illness, etc. that would have prevented him from this, but since moving to the West Coast I am witnessing nothing but disobedience to Rome. This same priest has asked the congregation to hold hands during the Our Father, including to reach across the aisle to do so. So, I probably did a wrong thing by leaving, but I felt the Mass was invalidated, to this I am probably incorrect, but am just seeking to worship as a Roman Catholic and tired of this renegade mentality towards the Mass. Sorry for the rant, but I am sick to my stomach and can't wrangle this at all.
Thy Geekdom Come
Yes, the renegade mentality toward the Mass is a travesty and a scandal to the faithful. However, none of the things you mentioned would invalidate the Mass. We are obliged to go to Mass, even when the priest or others are doing everything in their power to make the faithful morally uncomfortable. The devil loves to see faithful Catholics driven from their pews. Don't give him the satisfaction. Only leave if you are certain that Mass is invalid (which can really only happen if the Eucharist is not validly consecrated). I suggest you post in Open Mic and try to open a dialogue with some people in your area to see if you can find a parish that would be a good fit. Of course, use care in giving out any personal information. God bless, Micah
