Insomnia

Honestly I've never found a cure, and I suffer from some intense insomnia (I've gone without any sleep for 90ish hours before and will do days at a time). As tough as it is you may jst have to learn to bear it. You eventually just learn to deal with little sleep.

You might try a cup of hot tea, or mashed up rasberries in a glass of hot water.

Two suggestions:

1. Try to count to 10 without thinking about anything but the numbers. 1..2..3.."I forgot to take out the garbage.." STOP... Start again. It helps me to focus my mind.

2. Reset your circadian rhythms.

Also, spending time outdoors is great. I think this was mentioned already.
Your body clock is set by sunlight. Get as much as you can at sunrise, and your body will naturally want to wake up. This will help to reset your biological clock that might be off.
I don't have trouble sleeping, but I sleep with my blinds open. I luckily have east facing windows. The sun will wake me up, or at least partially wake me up when my alarm goes off. I feel better rested and fully wake up easier.

I've heard that 11:00-12:00 pm is one of the most important times to be asleep. But I'm not sure id that's true.

You may be right about that. At the very least I'm sure there is a window somewhere in there that is important to hit.
If it's 11-12 though, I only partially hit it most nights. :P

I feel your pain. The earliest I've been able to fall asleep is about 4 am (this morning it was almost 5...)

I would seriously recommend seeing your doctor. Occasional insomnia is sometimes normal for some people, but going this long is miserable and worth checking with a doctor.

The new medicine I started on Monday actually causes insomnia. I've basically started going to bed at 7pm, and staying there until 7am, sleeping off and on. It's supposed to get better, and the other nasty side affects are starting to slow, so I'm hoping the sleeping thing will too as I get used to the drug.

I've been trying a lot of what's been suggested... things still haven't improved.

*sigh*

Although, I'd stayed over at my brother's house the night before last and we had a bonfire. I was able to get to sleep fairly well after that. Something about staring at flames for a few hours...

Nah, not anymore. I used to play D1 softball, but not anymore. These days I'm mostly constrained to bike riding and shooting the basketball around. Kinda miss the highly competitive stuff, though.

Bike riding and recreational basketball is all good. Maybe you should try doing a bit of that in the afternoon. Like an hour or an hour and a half. Make your body use up some of its energy.
At the very least it's really healthy. :)
