mcts
I was never really taught how to receive on the tongue. it's not that hard of a thing. however, today when i went to communion, and i had my hands kind of at my chest and so the priest thought i was wanting a blessing, even though my mouth was obviously open. can anybody tell me what i should do? BG45
See, that's exactly why I'm afraid to try...
Lilllabettt
fold your hands pointy style or round style, at a level slightly higher than your waist, but not up to your chest. I close my eyes, too, to lessen the embarrassment of any mistakes.
Mrs. Bro. Adam
When receiving on the tongue, you basically make the sign of reverence for the Eucharist before receiving, and you stick out your tongue after the priest says "The body of Christ" and I put my hands into a very obvious prayer position. If your arms are crossed across your chest, or laid there, most priests will assume that you are not receiving.

Mrs. Bro. Adam
You're welcome. Although, if you really want to be obvious, you can receiving while kneeling, but that should only be done if you're receiving from a priest
MissyP89
I just leave them at my sides, but folding at waist level (like over your stomach) might help with the confusion. Don't stress doing it right; there's really no wrong way to do it.
Arpy
I fold 'em and hold 'em.

Vincent Vega
I have my hands folded at my sternum and open my mouth about thirty degrees right after I say amen. Never had a priest "not get it." However, I once went up for a blessing with my arms folded, and almost got force fed the Eucharist. That was interesting...

It's not customary in the EF so I don't in the OF.
Resurrexi
I never say "Amen" when receiving. It's not customary in the EF so I don't in the OF.
The rubrics of the ordinary form of the Mass say that the communicant is to say "Amen", so you really should. The priest saying "Corpus Christi" with the communicant responding "Amen" is actually how Communion is distributed in the ancient Ambrosian Rite. There's nothing untraditional about it, though I do prefer the priest saying "Corpus Domini nostri Iesu Christi custodiat animam tuam in vitam aeternam. Amen." Archaeology cat
I'm either holding a toddler or holding the hand of a toddler. Otherwise I either fold my hands or keep them by my side.
