OraProMe
What do you guys think of Opus Dei? Any experiences with their members? I've heard some bad stuff, but it's probably all hype. The only residential houses they have in my country are in another state but in my city Opus Dei priests run a massive church and a study centre for university students. I've been watching some conferences with St. Josemaria Escriva and some of the stuff he says is beautiful.
puellapaschalis
One of their ladies came and gave a talk about Opus Dei to a group of us up here. She was lovely: devout, bright, intelligent and down-to-earth. Her talk was very inspiring
Mrs. Bro. Adam
I have found Opus Dei priests to be among the best confessors.
stbensgirl
I run a tiny Catholic bookstore in my town, and I have been toying with the idea of inviting some Opus Dei people here to speak. I'm both drawn and repelled by them. To belong to a group, to any community, you have to be a "group" kind of person, and I'm learning (I think) that I am not. I was interested to read that some people on this phorum have gone to them for Confession. I think that would be wonderful! I think you could really get an understanding of what they're about if you had an OD confessor.
EcceNovaFacioOmni
I'll be working for them this summer.
jeffpugh
I have an Opus Dei priest as a confessor. He's in Toronto now, and I'm not. I should call him... make an appointment... They're excellent.

This is what I remember being told by an Opus Dei member on some message board some time ago: the name of the group means "Work of God" and I think they mostly laypeople (though apparently some priests are involved) who are making an intentional effort to sanctify their work or secular vocation through prayer and almsgiving, so that the ordinary routine of what they do for a living becomes almost like a spiritual practice for growing in holiness. Of course, we are all called to look at our school or work this way... they are simply called to be a visible witness to that calling for the Church and the world. VeniteAdoremus
The Opus Dei masses are the best in Amsterdam (except for, of course, the FSSP masses ). Oh, and the plushness of the communion rail cushions... I could stay there forever and ever (and I have a bad knee)! They never bothered me or tried to push me into anything. Just answered my impertinent questions and invited me to some lectures.
Nihil Obstat
From what I've heard they're an extremely solid group. Very orthodox and traditionally sensitive. Although I guess technically it's just hearsay.

Nihil Obstat
I said traditionally sensitive rather than traditional, because as far as I can tell while liturgically you might call them more 'moderate', they're, shall we say, sympathetic to the feelings of traditionalists.
