Saint Therese
Rome church stops holy water over satanic rite fears Published: June 16, 2009The Santa Maria Stella Maris church at Fiumicino, near Rome, has stopped offering holy water to worshippers because the parish priest fears it is being stolen for satanic rituals. Parish priest Fr Walter Palombi said the water is no longer provided for people to bless themselves, Adkronos reports. "We fear the water is being stolen for satanic rites. So we decided to remove it," said Walter Palombi, quoted by Italian daily Il Messaggero. Instead the church is placing flowers in the basins where the water was held and many worshippers think the move is "extravagant". "We asked ourselves for a long time why he had done it. We thought Fr Walter wanted to give a personalised touch to the church," said Bruno di Carlo, from the neighbourhood committee of Isola Sacra Nuova. "In reality, poor thing, he was forced to do so. He is a very good man, he had tried everything." Several chalices and tablecloths used on the church's altar have also disappeared. "We have motives to believe that these are used for a 'black mass' (satanic mass). Usually the person who carries out these practices needs items that are 'blessed' as well as holy water," said Palombi. SOURCE
Resurrexi
That's incredibly creepy.
Nihil Obstat
I'm not nearly as surprised as I wish I was. I've heard that Italy is especially bad for that.
Saint Therese
Yes satanism is really on the rise there This story bothered me though because it makes it seem like the devil has as much power as God.
LouisvilleFan
So, I don't see why it matters if they used holy water for that purpose? It's not a sacrament. And I have to guess they are pretty bummed because it will be very difficult to find another Catholic church in Italy.
Resurrexi
Holy Water is a sacramental. Using a sacramental for Satanic purposes would be a sacrilege.
LouisvilleFan
Enough of a sacrilege that they can't have holy water in the church? It's not like these satanist folks can't find another church. And what of our remembrance of Baptism? Will they also cease celebrating the Eucharist if they break into the tabernacle? They probably do steal the Eucharist as well. The priest and his EMHCs need to be extremely vigilant. What they're doing is tightening things up a bit, which is fine. If the Satanists find a new parish, then so be it, but they have to do everything they can. As far as I can tell, they're not saying they don't have holy water in the parish. After all, they need it. They just don't have it sitting out. Edited June 18, 2009 by Nihil Obstat

StColette
I'm a little confused by this move. Out of fear of it being used in satanic worship they removed the holy water, which one of its purposes is to ward off Satan (evil). I don't see this as being a practical move unless all the Churches in that area followed the same precautions.

Whatever satanists might be using it for (can't even guess) the parishioners will need it all the more. Does not seem like a reasonable reaction to me. It is creepy how much satanic activity is going on in Rome lately, though.

The irony behind their thinking of course is that their practice depends on ours. If the world did not have the Church (and churches) to provide things to desecrate what would they do then? One of my favorite definitions of hell is; "When evil has nothing else to destroy but itself, and cannot succeed.". By the mere premise of their 'anti-faith' their position is hopelessly lost. Let us pray for the repentance of all, and that the hells are kept empty.
CatherineM
Deep down, I guess I'd want them to take the holy water in the hope that it's use might affect them in a positive way. Are we coming to a time when we will have to have access cards to enter the church proving we are Catholics just so that we can be sure no one will steal a host or something else to desecrate? When I was reading the article I was thinking to myself "Well, maybe they'll accidentally dump it on themselves and it'll have some affect."
