Now, one of the key tenets of Mormon doctrine is the eternal nature of marriage. For whatever reason, my apologetics nature in me is drawing up blank. So, I need to just double check with y'all. As Catholics we don't believe that there is marriage in Heaven, other than spiritual marriage with God, right? What will our relationship with our family members be like? Meyendorff's book where he speaks about how the ritual of crowning elevates and transforms marriage from a simple contract into a manifestation of the eternal love that Christ has for His Church: "The procession before the crowning signifies therefore, an entrance into the Kingdom of Christ: the marriage contract concluded through the betrothal service will now be transformed into an eternal relationship; human love will acquire a totally new dimension by being identified with the love of Christ for His Church. The crowning service will now begin with a solemn proclamation by the priest: 'Blessed is the Kingdom of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.'" My idea was that our souls are united to God and we're in total bliss because we've returned to our creator. I never really imagined having a deep level of conciousness in heaven. You will be fully aware of everything and more, understand why. And yet, that doesn't seem to quite cover it, does it? I think heaven will exceed any of our expectations. I've been told that marriage is not so much 'ended' in heaven as 'fulfilled'. It's purpose is fulfilled, though the couples' love for each other is amplified infinitely by God's Love. Just what I learned, anyway. Those Mormon beliefs are... weird, to say the least. Has anyone seen that banned Mormon Cartoon? If not, Youtube it. John Meyendorff.[/quote] This is one teaching I've heard but don't understand, because Christ specifically said that marriages do not exist in Heaven.
