jumpfrog
I am being baptized in one month's time. It is just me, and a really small church...it is actually a convent chapel. I have seen them do an adult baptism there before, and it kind of bummed me out. They have no font, so they just pour a little dribble on water 3x on the forehead, with a little bottle that looks like it should be on the dining room table with salad dressing in it! And a sister is standing by with a towel to immediately wipe your face, so the water doesn't drip onto your clothes. I only get one baptism, and I don't want it to be like that! Am I being unreasonable? I looked on the internet, and I saw many RCIA candidates being baptized by immersion or by REAL pouring, with a pitcher. I don't want to try and make a big deal about it, cause I don't want to inconvenience anyone...and I am not saying that the salad-dressing bottle doesn't have enough water to baptize me...but I am still really bummed out. I tried to email the sister about it, but she just said "we don't use a font" and changed the subject. I feel if I talk to the Fr. he might be more flexible...he joked with me before that he would march me down to the Han River if I really wanted, but he was kidding (I think). Should I talk to him, or am I being unreasonable? I don't really need to go to the river, but I at least want to get wet. I can bring my own pitcher... CatherineM
Our parish only has a small font that we just use for infants. At Easter we use a kiddie swimming pool. You could offer to buy one for your baptism. People kneel in it, and have the water poured over their head. I understand that your baptism is special, and you want it to be special like a bride on her wedding day. Just remember that the water of baptism has been shared in tropical rivers, frozen lakes, in hiding underground, from the most modest chapels to the largest cathedrals in the world. It is sometimes done by a few drops on the forehead of the dying. No matter how you receive the water, it will join the ocean that is the Body of Christ.
