I play the occasional video game, and while I have lots of flaws, lukewarmness is not one of them.

I don't think it's the video games that cause a problem -- I think it's attachment to any particular distraction or recreation, or well... inordinate attachment to anything.

There's nothing wrong with Mortal Kombat. :) Nothing objectively wrong with playing it at least, in my inexpert opinion.

unless its just a horrible game lol. ever since mortal kombat went 3d it never grabbed my attention. the virtua fighter games were always the king for me. you could learn martial arts from them they were so intricate/techincal. anyway, just an opinion

overall, games are like anything else recreational. dont over do it, and be watchful of how the content effects you (if it does). We're all called to make time for God, but not as a "have to" but as a "want to". At first we have to "set aside time for God" and it feels like a "have to", but the goal is to develop our faith through sacraments, reading about the faith/learning, and prayer that it becomes a "want to" - and it quickly will.

Like dont look at monks who sacrifice all recreation to pray 24-7 as a goal. Dont think that they are better than us, and we have to get to that level to appease God. They do that because they want to. Thats where their love and faith is, and God bless them, that's awesome.

God doesn't love them more though. God cant love any of us any more or less than he already does, no matter what we do. We have to remember that. Dont kill yourself. Be yourself and love God like a person, not like a ruleset. (From your concern in making this post I would say your heart and faith is totally in the right place, so I think you will be fine. I'm just trying to help you not worry too much)

Although I probably still play too much video games, I play less because I picked up a new hobby-learning languages.

Go for the Wii! Go for the Wii!

Video games are, like most electronics--computers, cell phones, highly addictive--worse than TV as there are no commercials or sense of time passing. they are also a profound waste of time.

The same principle to VG addiction applies as with Alcoholics Anonymous. Abstention is the only cure, if you're an addict. In AA,they are taught to say, "I AM an alcoholic" no matter when their last drink was.

I can't keep sweets in the house or I'll eat them. Same with alcoholics--no liquor for life.

If you're a VG addict, then swear them off---for good. A return to VG will tell you whether you're an addict or not.

I try to maintain a good balance between work, VG, prayer and general life. Yes if there is something I stop playing to keep a balance of the rest it's VG, they can be taken or left, they aren't a neccessity.

All things in moderation and enjoy them in that moderation.

God bless-
