Medjegorje

And another:

Bishop Pavao Zanic, of Mostar, made a lengthy 1990 statement on Medjugorje, in which he too cited a conversation with Mirjana. "One month after the beginning of the ‘apparitions’ I went to Medjugorje to question the ‘seers.’ I asked each of them to take an oath on the cross and demanded that them must speak the truth. (This conversation was recorded on tape.) The first was Mirjana: ‘We went to look for our sheep when at once..." (The associate pastor in the parish interrupted and told me that they actually went out to smoke, which habit they hid from their parents.) ‘Wait a minute, Mirjana, you are under oath, did you go out to look for your sheep?’ She put her hand over her mouth and said, ‘Forgive me, we went out to smoke.’"

Here is a pretty article: http://www.unitypublishing.com/Apparitions/BrianF.html

I only recommend it for information sake, but I do not vouch for everything in it.

Ash Wednesday

I would really be keenly interested to see that clip, Pius X! Why on Earth would Mary ever drop her Son?

I am very very skeptical now about the authenticity of apparitions. I do believe people encounter Our Lady there, because they seek her there, like the Memorare Prayer recalls, one who seeks Mary is never ignored. Right now, I don't think it's Our Lady of Medjugorje, though. I am skeptical that she, if she exists, is Our Lady.

I would still really like to go there -- but I think as a place of prayer it's worth visiting. And I hear the Adriatic Coast is a great place to taste good wine. ;)

I have been to the adriatic. I would go back for the wine :drunk: .
But I would not set a foot in Medjugorje.

I haven't read everything, but thanks for the info!! I believe in Medjugorje just because my dad was basically converted to Catholism through that, along with so many others. I don't see anything wrong with fasting, conversion, praying, which Mary is calling everyone to do. I'll read some of the things and write more after reading them. ;)
Another little tidbit:

The ‘seers’ were said to be in ‘ecstasy’ during the apparitions – a state in which they were oblivious to sensation and the events around them. On January 14, 1985, while the ‘seers’ were allegedly in this state, Frenchman Jean-Louis Martin approached Vicka "and made as if he were going to poke her in the eyes with his two fingers. Vicka jumped back instinctively and was quickly led out of the room by Fr. Vego. A little while later she returned and explained that while she had been watching the Blessed Virgin, the infant Jesus looked as if He were slipping out of her arms. The reaction that Martin saw as her avoiding being pocked in the eye was in reality her attempt to catch falling Baby Jesus, at least according to Vicka’s explanation" ("Untold Story II," p. 24). The incident was filmed on camera – and two weeks later, the priests closed the apparitions to the outside public.
That's odd.

I really would still like to go there, and experince it.

First of all, our priest who has gone to Medgegorje said that the apparations can not investigate it til after the apparations have ended. Please note these apparations still are happening.

I think the point is the Bishops conference said that they are not happening and Rome agreed and backed up the Bishops conference. They said do not go. The priests are suspended. It's a shady situation. If it was true that investigations could not begin until after the apparitions have stopped (which is not true, Rome can investigate any time they please) how easy would it be to run a scam. You say that the apparitions don't stop. They just keep going for like 25 years. In the meantime many millions of dollars are flowing right into your pocket. This is starting to sound familiar. Now we just need two priests to shack up with a couple nuns, get them pregnant and there you have Medjugorje.

It was a horribly written sentance wasn't it. What I was attempting to say is that if the rule actuall was that the thing cannot be investigated until the apparition ceases, then it would be beneficial for someone trying to run a hoax (as Medjugorje seems to be) to never let the apparitions cease. Med. has been going on for 25 years or so. Millions of dollars have flowed into the place. And two of the priests associated with it have impregnated nuns (who they now live with). Sorry. I was very tired when I wrote that other post.

I recommend you find more info for yourselves.
The Church, to my knowledge, has not approved… nor disapproved on this matter.
The Catholic Church is wise to not hurry on an official stance on any issue when there is time.

If Medugorje were bringing bad fruit, or an obvious sham, or inconsistent with Catholicism… the Church would have acted by now.
Note that this has been going on for some time now; also note that not all the original visionaries (no longer children now) are receiving messages; and note that there are some who refuse to accept the possibility of a modern day miracle and will exploit the human weaknesses of others and exaggerate or misrepresent (lie) on the truth to cast doubt on something real and wonderful and (at the very least) worth considering.

Medugorje is a devotion not necessary for everyone, but should also not be discouraged to everyone.
