So Today I Was Mowing The Grass...

:ohno:

And Eagle Eye was sweet and took a quick look at it but he was literally walking out the door for his class. So luckily the mower looked fine. And before he left I got a talk on why you don't flip the mower over. (I will never make that mistake agian). So I cut some more and the mower was acting kind of funny. Wonderful! The grass needs to be cut and I ran over a bunch of wood. Though to my defense it was covered by grass. So I didn't know it was there till a really loud and funny noise stopped me in my tracks. And I was also in that "mood" of "don't you dare think about getting in my way". I stopped mowing, mostly to let the mower get a break (hopefully later it would be fine) went to the garage and came out with the shovel and hachett. I spent a full hour digging/ chopping (though it was mostly digging) and got that stump out. And it felt so awesome. I was so exhilarated. It was awesome. :flex: And thanks be to God- the mower was fine so I spent another hour mowing. However one of my favorite images kept flashing in my mind.

Anyway I am sure there are many times where you just get in that "mood" and you go and conquer all. :topsy: Ok I admit removing a small stump is hardly "conquering all". However it really helped my week and mood. And when push comes to shove- women can be pretty awesome.

Please feel free to share similar stories.

God Bless

One time, I opened a container of Oreos (a new one). I began eating, and by the time I was satisfied, I saw there was only one half of one of the three rows left. Well, I'll have you know: I am no quitter!
I shoved every last one of those down until I had a ring of crumbs around my mouth and felt like I was being kicked in both the stomach and the head by a p.o.'d Tae Kwan Do instructor...but I finished them!
I CONQUERED ALL THE OREOS!

I mowed the lawn too today. :) There was a steep hill and lots of ant hills. I don't like ants, especially when I'm worried they're crawling up my legs.
It didn't take as long as it took you. Probably because the stump is in the front, and it's a long term project for the time being.

It has been on DauntingKnight's "list to do" for some time, but he is in Philmont and has been very busy. So instead of waiting for him to "get around" to it, I decided to do it. And it was fun.

A few months ago, I was doing a service thing with some friends and we were building a new horse corral for a kid's summer camp. Well, we had to put these ginormas huge logs things that had to weigh well over 100 pounds each into these really deep holes in the ground and then pour gravel on top and then hit it with this really heavy iron rod thingy (I think it was called tampering or something like that). It doesn't sound like much but that iron rod was so heavy and hard to move and I felt strong and so powerful after that. Especially with my hair falling in my face and feeling the ground shake with each stroke. Hehe, it was really tiring, but still I felt so accomplished afterwards. I felt ready to take on the world.

The one we're working on in the front yard is about three feet across, plus a massive root system. :sadwalk:

What type of tree are you talking about. Poplar is part of the willow family and I believe the tulip tree is also part of the willow family. I was taking a stab.

I'm not sure, because I'm totally not a woodsy type of person who knows lots about plants, but I think there are different varieties of poplars... and the ones we have here in Calgary are pretty much weeds. They grow everywhere, and the roots do terrible things to driveways and sidewalks. They extend a really really long ways, so they're very difficult to take care of.

oh I was just curious.

That seems totally like a major pain.

It really is. The tree's been destroying our driveway since we moved in over ten years ago. Now we finally tore it up in the dead cold of the winter in anticipation of redoing the yard and exterior of the house over the next 3-7 years. :)

It was so cold that day that the hydraulics of the big tree felling trucks froze up. I think it got below -40.

The worst thing about that weather is that invariably it's also icey and slipperly. That means that a smart person plans for about an hour delay in the busses. I've sat through two hour or longer delays.
That's only for the bus to get there, so you're standing outside freezing your toes off. Then once the bus starts moving, it's really anybody's guess how long it will take. I've been on a three hour bus ride that normally takes a half hour.
Someone had to get off and pee in a bush. I felt bad for him. Especially because that's cold enough to give frostbite to exposed skin in under a minute. Especially little extremeties.
