US customs are clearly more important than every other country which existed long before it....

[/quote] I have no problem with a private American citizen bowing (or in the case a of lady curtsying) to the Queen of England (or any other royal personage), because their actions - even though their actions are contrary to American tradition which rejects the concept of secular royalty, but the man who holds the highest office in our land should act according to the customs of the American people who elected him, and not according to a misguided sense of deference to foreign potentates. If one is GOING to another country, they should follow the customs, no matter what arrogant attitude they or others have about the United States' superiority to every other culture.

[/quote] I may find the actions of a foreign leader offensive, but I have no problem with him following the customs of his own nation while he is visiting the U.S. as the representative of his people. The President of the United States is an American, at least he is supposed to be, and he should follow the customs of our nation when visiting as head of state. He may do whatever he wants as a private citizen, but when he is acting in his official capacity, he should act according to our traditions. Edited November 14, 2009 by Apotheoun
