LivingStone
G. K. Chesterton once stated something along these lines: "If there was no God, there wouldn't be any atheists". edited: yeah, the quote right below in my footnote...forgot. oops Edited December 14, 2009 by LivingStone

You live your life according to what you don't believe.
No. I don't "define" myself as anything. "Atheist" describes the loose set of "beliefs" i have. You don't get to tell me how I define myself. Atheism isn't a lifestyle like Christianity is. I am not defined by it because religious issues play a very small role in my life. I come here and debate for sport, not because I have anything to prove or defend. I'm offended by your arrogant decision that I am nothing because YOU choose to define my life by the label of "atheist."

God the Father
How do you resolve the above two quotes? You admit that God determines what is right and wrong, yet you are also saying that there are justifiable other belief systems? The problem that the second quote makes God optional or irrelevant which is conflict with the first which states that God is the arbiter. So is God the arbiter or not? Or do you believe He created multiple belief systems with moral contradictions all leading to Him, thus showing that morals ultimately DO NOT matter?
It's called a belief system because it's based on beliefs and not facts. If a belief system or religion is not justifiable, no one would practice it. If Jews can't justify Judaism then why would they be Jewish? It may not make sense to you or me based on our beliefs but somehow they do it. In the case of humanity, belief in God is optional, which is where atheists come from. I believe God determines what's right and wrong. Some people don't, and they justify it in any number of ways (see this thread). I believe el chupacabra terrorizes livestock in the more arid regions of the American continent. Some people don't. Those beliefs are different; in fact they are conflicting, but I don't make a character judgment on that person's morality based upon conflicting beliefs. I don't know, maybe I haven't been paying attention but I didn't realize that puts me in conflict with my Church.
We are not saying they are bad people. God seems to be saying it though. I mean...that's a fact.
You're not saying they're bad people, but God is? Sounds like a disagreement if you ask me. Who's being contradictory now?
