All your base are belong to us. Your cultural and biological individuality will be assimilated into the collective. All your colors are belong to beige. All your icons are belong to banners. Resistance is banal. In all seriousness though, even the Borg had a better appreciation for order and right angles than some of the nonsense architects of the 70s. StMichael
Previously, the Cathedral was Saint Vibiana, located in Downtown LA. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Saint_Vibiana What you will find is go-go dancers where the altar was. The images are disgusting. You can also search for photos, and come across such heart wrenching images as party goers dressed as nuns. http://www.flickr.com/photos/someonewalksinla/264657648/ Here is the owners site, pictures and all. http://www.vibianala.com/index2.html I can assure you that what goes on there will not be found in the pictures on their site.
I think there are angels crying over the L.A. Cathedral. I'm not surprised Mahoney has an opulent throne in that nihilist monstrosity. Nothing says celestial liturgy quite like the intentional absence of right angles. I just hope the aliens who built the tabernacle don't decide to come back and claim it. And as far as I know, co-Adjutor Bishops more or less are there to learn the ropes and ins and outs of the diocese in the time leading up when the previous bishops retires. Veridicus
So LA allowed their prior Cathedral to become a rave club? [mod]language- MIKolbe[/mod] are you serious? In Edinburgh Scotland they have converted one of the older churches into a hostel complete with a bar in the basement...I assumed such abominations were isolated to rapidly secularizing and increasingly atheist countries. Apparently the diocese of LA is no exception. Edited January 25, 2010 by MIkolbe

Lil Red
+JMJ+ may i just ask what the point of posting these pictures is? seriously? is it to make people sick? is it to rile people up? is it to say "oh how awful the Latin Churches are!"? is it to make people unhappy? is it to make people want to leave the church? look, people are aware that there are crappy things that happen. Cardinal Ratzinger relayed this story:
(So the legend goes) Napoleon once declared that he would destroy the Church. Whereupon one of the cardinals replied, "Not even we have managed that!"
we know that there are people even WITHIN the Church who are passively and actively trying to destroy the Church. but Jesus said, "the gates of Hell shall not prevail". so take courage and have hope! things are getting better!! Veridicus
I think for some of us it is more difficult to contain the zeal for our Mother's house. It is easy to find like minds in this ethereal place we call Phatmass, but for many of us this is the only place we can discuss with other Catholics who understand our frustrations. It's called venting. But I do agree. Things are getting better. One day at a time, one ounce at a time. We all have hope...of course we have hope!, but that doesn't fully assuage the frustration or isolation
I think for some of us it is more difficult to contain the zeal for our Mother's house. We all have hope...of course we have hope!, but that doesn't fully assuage the frustration or isolation
look, i get the venting, i truly do. but when it's just venting for venting's sake (which it seems like to me) - then when does it cross the line? many times i've thought in this thread that people were trying to 'one-up' each other in pictures. and honestly, i find that the more people 'vent', the more they aren't praying, praying specifically and by name for our priests and bishops, archbishops, cardinals, and the Pope. (speaking of which, i gotta go) the more i pray, the more sorrow i feel, not frustration or anger. the more sorrow i feel, the more i pray for my priest, my bishop, and the Pope. edit: after praying about it, i realized (or it was shown me) that the above paragraph is presumptuous of me. i don't know what peoples' prayer lives are like, or whatever. i just mean to say that many of the posts come across as bitter, and we are (or should be) a people of joy and love. love draws people in to see what's going on with the Catholics, not bitterness. Peace, and God bless. Edited January 25, 2010 by Lil Red
