AND BY THE WAY, GETTING MARRIED ON A BEACH IS SOMETHING I HAVE BEEN CONSIDERING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME FAR SHORTER THAN I HAVE BEEN CONSIDERING CONVERTING, AND CONVERTING IS CERTIANLY A DESCION THAT IS FAR MORE IMPORTANT TO ME. AND YES I KNOW I'M YELLING. YOU MAD ME MAD.

You know, Pope John Paul II used to say Latin Mass in the woods, using an overturned canoe as an altar...and guess what? The Mass was still the Mass, and very beautiful and pleasing to God. Just re-read Cappie's response, and you'll see that your desire isn't too outlandish, nor is it impossible...

...best wishes!!!

I don't even know where to start with the replies. I'm crying. I come here to ask a genuine* question, not to have my desire for conversion questioned or be told I am being selfish, because at one time, when I wasn't Catholic*, I desired to have a beach wedding.

If a decision as major as a conversion to another religion hinges upon something as inconsequential as whether or not one can be married on the beach, perhaps the prospective convert ought to reconsider his reasons for conversion.

 this is not a very nice response

It was presumptive for anyone to question your desire for conversion based solely on your inquiry regarding a beach wedding. I think the fact that you got on here to ask amply demonstrated you aren't be closemindedly selfish about your desire. There are legitimate reasons for the responses which addressed why a beach wedding would be inappropriate for a Catholic and they were charitably answered in my opinion.

I'm sorry your feelings were hurt, but no one said you were selfish, nor did anyone hint that they thought you were.

Maybe you're just a little stressed out? :flowers:

I think that there has been a failure to communicate here. Nobody originally questioned your desire to convert, but your later statement made it sound like you would rather have a beach wedding than be Catholic. I can guarantee you that nobody would have assumed that otherwise. If you don't mind, could you please let us know exactly what you didn't like about the first responses? Maybe then we could explain better about what we meant, because absolutely no harm was meant by what was said.

:idontknow:
Isn't it a worthy thing to examine one's reasons for conversion?
At one time during my journey, I was having doubts and thought that the only reason I should go through with my conversion was so that I could become closer to the Catholic side of my family.
In hindsight, I'm glad I distanced myself and thought seriously about what I was doing and why. I discovered that, indeed, the real reason I was converting was because I had found the Truth and wanted to be able to receive the graces that only the Church could give. It made the process that much more meaningful.

I wasn't insinuating anything about this poster's desire for conversion, just suggesting that he step back and look at the important things. I apologise if it came off as harsh.

Not to be dense, but I'm with zunshynn...I didn't think this was a particularly haughty set of responses. You asked what the Church's position was and people explained it and emphasized that as Catholics we should desire to be near the Eucharistic presence of Christ during the our Nuptial ceremony. I am really sorry if we offended you.

My point is I am not Catholic, and I don't know these things, that is why I am asking, and yes some replies were very nice and helpful. But some where, in my opinion, very "holier than thou", which is upsetting to me because I am asking from the point of very little knowledge, with a big desire to learn.

You'll have to excuse overzealous posts as there is a lot of 'inter-Catholic' sparring which tends to occur over issues like this where people are very opinionated.

I have been around long enough to know better, as I stated earlier, I should have posted to the Q and A forum, where response are controlled. I am sorry I got upset. It was the replies of a few that really hurt, I appreciate those who genuinely helped. And no...I'm not a "drama queen". I just really got hit in a soft spot.

Um, excuse me? Everyone in this thread has been incredibly polite to you, as well as welcoming. Veridicus was kind enough to share personal photos with you. Your explosion is COMPLETELY uncalled for.

Eh, I probably could have gone for a little more...padding.
I guess being less terse is something I could bear to work on.

My reasons for wanting to convert were questioned by someone who does not know me and didn't even bother to read my post. While I may not have responded in the best possible way, I believe I have every right to be upset. You should read the whole thread.

*edit : Also, I already apologized, so why berate me?

The generalization that we're "haughty" as well as the CAPS LOCK scream fest were uncalled for period.

One person was cold to you (if "cold" is the right word to use) and he's tried to make his amends. In fact, some people who did nothing wrong have apologized to you. It's just not right to start screaming at people who did nothing wrong.

Look HisChild....its kinda over now....don't make me mad again. As I said....I already apologized, and I wasn't screaming at everyone, just one person in particular, who was in my opinion more than "cold".

I am so sick of thread already, can someone please delete it, because I am really tired of trying to defend myself.
