Looking at your body in a cold, clinical or perverse way is reserved only to your husband?
sigh. that's not what i meant. i meant that looking at my body should be reserved for my husband's loving gaze
I don't know what I think about it yet. My initial inclination is it is a violation of privacy. It would be one thing if they had reason to suspect you of a crime, had you placed under arrest, and had to perform a search for their safety and yours.
there is that.

I would rather feel virtually violated by someone looking at a virtual image, then by being actually violated by a full -body stripsearch or somebody patting all my parts.

i prefer neither.

Nihil Obstat

Like Ann Coulter said; flying armed should be mandatory. ;) What terrorist is going to take on an airplane full of armed Americans? :hehe:

Agreed, but one is infinitely better than the other.

there is a world of difference between a physician who has years upon years of schooling, and a controller who maybe gets a year training.

There are externs and nursing students and people with high school educations working as techs which will likely see you naked in the hospital. You'd be surprised how little difference there is. Perversion and voyeurism are the problem, not the actual professional act of viewing someone naked.

well, you know how watching porn over and over leads to becoming dissatisfied and craving more, and not knowing real, true intimacy? i think that in many ways, it could lead operators to the same thing.

I agree.

like when? (not being snarky, generally curious) when asked, during appointments, if an intern can sit in, i say yes unless i have to undress, then i say no.

I welcome the fastest and most reliable method that's out there. Guns are no protection to a terrorist with a bomb, who is going to die anyway. She or he just sets it off before anyone can draw the gun. Similarly, anyone who tries to threaten with a weapon or is otherwise out of control will quickly be overcome by the passengers, armed or not. This has already happened.

I see nothing to be ashamed of that any screener is interested in looking at. My most embarrassing feature is a roll of fat or two--and how many of those are the screeners going to see in a day?

Scanning is a boon to travelers with joint replacements and pacemakers, an increasing percentage of those who fly.

I definitely don't like it.

When you are seeing a doctor, unless it is a medical emergency (as in ER room), you have a choice of which doctor's office you are going to visit or what doctor you will have for surgery (to an extent). It is also done for a medical treatment or scan necessary for your health and often chosen by you.

Call me a prude but I would be uncomfortable with my wife seeing a male gynecologist, and I would be uncomfortable getting shown how to check for testicular cancer by a female doctor.

Getting your clothes virtually removed at the airport is completely different from any sort of medical procedure. If this were posted on a ballot I would vote against it in a heart beat, terrorist or no terrorist.

Except he would also know that all it takes is one bullet fired in the wrong direction to take the plane down.

There is nothing intrinsically evil with seeing a naked body or the naked form, even if it is not someone from your own family (spouse or children). In many cases it is imprudent though and can be a near occasion of sin (thus we aren't all running out to join nudist colonies). My wife has a hard core Catholic male OB-GYN who I have no qualms with her going to (most of our home school moms go to him). I also don't think the doctor is placing himself in a near occasion of sin for the doctor to do his job. I'm told by the nurses, doctors, and ambulance drivers I know that you simply get used to medically necessary nudity quickly on the job (just as you get used to blood and puke), just as a curator working in the Vatican art gallery might be used to seeing the nudity in art. We cover ourselves because we do not want our bodies to be misused by those looking at it.

If I thought that a non-Catholic male or female OB might misuse my wifes body when seeing it, that would be a different story.

That said, I believe it would be imprudent and a violation of privacy to use whole body scanners that give someone else anonymous access to the nude form of your body, whether you think you are a 1 or a 10, which really has nothing to do with the issue at hand. I believe strip searches, virtual or otherwise are a necessary part of police work when they are warranted to keep public safety officers, offenders and citizens safe. Perhaps these full body scanners can be used in place of strip searches when they are necessary.

I only got 3 months of medical training.
