CatherineM Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I keep my wisdom teeth and my gallstones in a container.
HisChildForever Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 They opened up my gums and had to drill my wisdom teeth out. I was never given the option of keeping them.

You know how car repair people are supposed to give you the old parts to prove they needed replacing? What if the teeth they took out or filled were perfect? We're very trusting. Not sure about teeth, but I don't think hospitals give you your "parts" to take home anymore--like they sometimes did in the past when they removed your tonsils, etc. They keep them for a period of time in case of lawsuits. However, I have pictures. Just in case I want to get nostalgic about my lost "parts" or something. Thankfully, I'm not the kind of person who does scrapbooking or makes guests see slides. I'm thoughtful that way.
cmotherofpirl Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 The wisdom tooth I pulled out with pliers is sitting next to my computer ...
Ha, all four were impacted and one caused infection (which is why I went to the dentist to get it checked out in the first place). Add the pain with the x-rays, and I had all the "proof" I needed. Does anyone remember that thread from - oh jeez, maybe a year ago - where some guy claimed that wisdom teeth were given to us by God, should not be removed, and anyone who had them removed was tricked?
Boy, I'm sure glad I missed that thread, I would have had a few words for that guy. He probably had perfect teeth. I hate when people who don't have a problem say it's in your head or that you should just "deal with it." Once in college, a fellow student said that cramps are all in your head. I almost decked her. When I had my hysterectomy, there were lots of Internet threads to make me feel guilty, saying that hysterectomies were a conspiracy by male doctors. (My OB/GYN was female.) Granted, doctors DID perform too many hysterectomies in the past. But, these Internet folks didn't care that I was doubled over with pain 24/7--think cramps that never go away. They claimed that the only reason for a hysterectomy was to save your life and any other problems were "lifestyle" issues. Yeah, feeling like you're being karate-kicked in the abdomen 24/7 does interfere with your lifestyle. I was vindicated after my hysterectomy, because it turned out that I had pretty much everything wrong with me that a woman could have wrong, short of cancer (Thank God!) My OB/GYN was surprised that I had been able to endure all the pain as long as I did. And, my problems were so bad that there was no way short of a hysterectomy that the doctors could fix them. After recovery--which WAS painful--I had no more abdominal pain at all. Ever. I can't imagine all the medical visits, prescription drugs, or "alternative treatments" I would have had to go through without the operation. I had no complications. I've never regretted it. One thing I have learned over the years is that everyone's body is VERY different. What works for you is bad for someone else and vice versa. That's why I hate it that there are efforts to make health care providers treat particular conditions the same way for everyone--it doesn't reflect the reality of the diversity of the human body. Of course, all the parts of our bodies were given us by God. But, I still cut my hair and clip my fingernails. Of course, you need to do lots of research and have as few medical procedures as possible. And, you need to find a doctor you trust. But, in the end, ONLY YOU know the right medical treatment for you. But, back to the original subject (finally). Tooth pain is THE worst! And, if you had a tooth infection it could have spread to your brain and killed you. But, no, you shouldn't have had your wisdom teeth removed. Oy! <IggyLoy steps off her soapbox.> Edited May 12, 2010 by IgnatiusofLoyola

By the way, if you haven't seen it, go to the Lame Forum, there is a thread called "Most Urgent and Serious Questions," started by L-D, that you'll greatly enjoy.
