Tony
if the first 15 minutes of games didn't count, USA would win the World cup Tough defeat against Ghana, they were flat the 1st half, played very well the 2nd half, and fought to the bitter end of the extra time. It's just hard to keep winning when you give up early goals.

aalpha1989
Normally I would be thrilled to be rooting for Germany. The game today made me apathetic to the rest of the tournament, as long as Brazil doesn't win.

I have never really kept up with soccer or sports in general, but it would be great for the continent which we can almost all agree is one that has had severe injustice and turmoil dealt to it.
First, you should know that I didn't give you any of those minuses, which I find stupid to say the least. Secondly, the beautiful thing about sport is that it doesn't matter how rich or poor or haughty or humble or smart or simple one is when one is playing. There is only the game - all are equal before the just eyes of the scoreboard. Show me a continent upon which no injustice has been committed and I will you a continent that is uninhabited. Have Africans been treated unfairly? Yes, at times. Have Europeans? Ask those held in Auschwitz or in Stalin's Pogroms or the Catholics persecuted by the English. Have Americans? Ask the Cherokee. Have the Asians? And so on and so forth. Everybody's been suckerpunched at some point, but the great thing is that the football doesn't care what colour you are or what God you pray to. The other great thing is that everyone's free to root for whoever they want, for any reason or no reason at all. ...just as long as they're prepared to be beaten by the Germans. ThePenciledOne
Thanks USAirwaysIHS, Yeah, I understand that, but Africa still have things going on with Sudan and Darfur and has had things a lot more recent. Not saying other atrocities are not equal, but I don't wanna get into that debate, I was merely stating my postion on this. Yes, its a game, but then like I said before I don't follow sports often, but I do love watching soccer, cause that is the one sport I do enjoy playing. Be nice that I wouldn't get such a scolding in return though. Goodness, just reminds me why I don't follow sports normally to begin with ha. But I will be cheering on whoever keeps going. Era Might
I accidentally gave you a -1. I was trying to take away one of your minuses, so I pressed the minus button...then I realized that I was supposed to press the plus button. I don't know who I'll be rooting for now that the USA has been eliminated. I'm just looking forward to seeing some good matches. If there is an underdog, I'll probably root for them...actually, Ghana's as good a team as any to root for now.
XIX
And I find it incredibly annoying that I received a -1 for expressing my opinion on what team I liked...Another reason why I do not generally follow sports at all.
Understandable. People take sports way way waayyyyyy too seriously. And I am an aficionado of sports--I'll follow just about anything, because I find it entertaining. Yet there are those who just care about the result too much, and act like it's a grave sin if you claim to be a fan but don't act in a specific way (you have to root for this team, you must always support your team no matter what, you can't ever leave a game early, you can't ever predict that your team will lose, etc etc blah blah blah). ortus
Well that's it for England - suddenly the feeling here in London is like a balloon when all the air is let out. To put it simply England were easily out-played and totally out-classed by Germany. Even if the disallowed goal had been properly called; England were lucky not to lose 6/7 to 2. Last week I was a bit regretful that I am going back to the US before the end of the tournament because I know the World Cup mood at home will not be as good as here in London. England takes its football very seriously and the atmosphere here has been building into a crescendo. Now the England team seem a bit of a damp squib and it'll be nice to be at home and another world away from football - I may even revert to calling it soccer. Still think it will be either Brazil or Spain who will win in the end.
dominicansoul
I am so glad Ghana won! Other than that I will be content in my happiness until the next game for Ghana.
I have a Polish priest friend, and he celebrates Mass in another parish close to my hometown. I went to Mass this morning, and he brought up this game between the U.S.A and Ghana, and he said that he feels "God is just trying to humble the U.S.A a little by allowing such a small country team to beat the big country team. This was like David and Goliath." He went on to say that God may elevate a more humble team more so than a team that the world expects to win. I just found it funny that he was using the World Cup to prove points.
