hmmm, I don't hate Apple so much anymore! lol. I still like the navigating on a pc though, guess it's because I grew up with it.

I'm impressed, but their products still smell of elderberries :topsy:

I'm getting an iPad sometime in the next few weeks from my school and I'm excited. I just fiddled with one for a few minutes and I'm already convinced it's better than a PC.

im not happy with how generally restrictive Apple is with their products. I would rather have open source technology and the benefits of that, and deal with the junk, than have Apples censorship and proprietary stuff, even if i were to fully agree with this one act of censorship.

I never did understand the appeal of Apple products, their Apple PC's now boast an 8% share of the world PC operating system market, heck the free Linux OS holds over 30%, and Apple holds far less than Windows or Linux of the business market. What does this mean? It means that not many things are developed for Apple PC's as their market base is small, and those that get developed expressly for the Apple system are far more expensive than anything developed for a PC, its just supply and demand, when you have more demand the supply rises and the prices drop. This is a good thing that Mr Jobs is doing, the porn industry will not even worry about it though as it is such a small platform it will not affect their bottom dollar at all. Mr. Jobs screwed up years ago when he decided to corner the education market, what a boob, and Mr. Gates said I am going after the business market, obviously a much smarter decision. Another thing that gets me is people talk about how closed source a PC is? Apple has cornered the market on closed source, partially another reason why there is not much developed for their machines.

This move as I said earlier will not even bother the porn industry, and Apple will still be the platform that has very few overpriced applications that will work on their system, well in all fairness the really good applications for Windows eventually get ported to Apples OS, just costs a whole lot more, but Mr. Jobs policy of a mark and his money are easily parted works as they are so desirous of something that is useful they will pay a ransom to get it on their Apple. The best move Mr. Jobs ever made was to spread the rumor that the intellectuals and the creative use Apple products, this is supposed to offset the fact that they are basically an overpriced PC, at least they are now including applications to run windows products on the Apple, this must make the clowns who doled out twice to three times as much for an Apple PC as for a comparable Windows PC feel really special now that they can run Windows applications, well at least it makes their Apple a little more useful than a paperweight.

What most people are missing in this whole story is the fact that Mr. Jobs opined that he was starting a revolution, his revolution. I am glad that he feels he can regulate what people do with their lives, that kind of makes him the Hitler of PC's, and anyone that does not want to use porn for personal or religious reasons on a Windows PC just has to set his browser to not go there, and of course not go there on his own, but then again this would be taking personal resposibility, maybe Mr. Jobs feels his customers are not able to make decisions like this of their own accord. I guess Mr. Jobs needs to get Justin Long to do an ad that says, " Hey we at Apple do not approve of Porn and have decided that you as customers should not use it, do not be alarmed, we are still cool about POT use though."

It's not censorship. It's a marketing decision. As a corporation, Apple should in theory have complete control over what they sell or choose to offer with their products. Steve Jobs personally objects to pornography, and with his position in the corporation, he's entirely within his rights to choose to act in accordance with those beliefs.
If people don't like it, their stock will fall, and maybe Steve Jobs will be forced out. Who knows. It's how the market functions.

My main point though, is that Apple isn't and shouldn't be obligated to offer anything in particular, whether that's pornography, or Flash capabilities on the iPad.

True, they should not be obligated to have to offer use of anything or any service, that should be his business decision and as you said he will be either embraced by the market or shunned for his choices. I think its commendable what he is doing, I think its a bad business decision to publicize it, I hope he does well for this was a good moral choice. Either way the gullible who will pay almost $500.00 dollars for one are not as many as those who will look at a netbook and say $199.00 , same size, surfs the net, is compatible with most everything, cheap and easy to use software, $199.00 lets see.......

Bill Gates has done a lot of bad things with his money. Just last week, I read about some sort of new contraceptive effort his foundation is funding.

Unfortunately saw that as well. Something to do with making sure that
the testicles don't produce?
they dont HAVE to do anything. you are right. but since they choose to do things like that i wont do business with them. when my ipod classic finally breaks(and its been malfunctioning for a year now) i have another in a long list of reasons to not do business with Apple.

i can be quite mad at what i perceive as ripoffs, and the Ipad is right up there with scientology for me.

and since Apple tends to think that your purchase of one of their products doesnt mean that you actually own it and can use it as you like/modify it, they seem more like a technology rental store.

Well that's just it. The beauty if it is that they do whatever they want, and you don't have to buy it. Unlike, for instance, socialized healthcare.

I'm still not an Apple fan, but I respect Steve Jobs a little more now.

What, really? The government can (and does) do whatever it wants, because they know that it's almost impossible to lose customers. Apple has to do everything they can to keep you happy, because they will lose customers if they don't.

I am not sure why every one is excited. There is still porn in the ipod app store.

psst, i was kinda joking. ;)

and Apple really doesnt have to do any of that. they get by on their image and some userfriendlyness(aka neutering machines for the gen. pop.)
competitors often make far superior machines(creative zen a few generations ago, new Zune, google's Android phone) for cheaper. Apples computers frequently sell for more than double the price of competing machines, and the latest Ipad is a overpriced, undercapable machine.

and they will all keep selling. partially cause Apple has a rep for being a "kind, loving" corporation, a label it certainly doesnt deserve anymore, if it ever did. and a whole lot of brand loyalists who will buy anything shiny touched by steve jobs.

Just went to look to see about those apps:

- Playboy is 99¢ and contains no nudity
- Maxim has a free app (with subscription) and a pay app ($2.99) but neither contain any nudity.
- SI has a few, but there is one for the 2010 swimsuit issue, which is free. Also no nudity.

Because the iphone is so mobile, shutting down the porn industry is huge. Apps to gawk at are one thing, but with location gps, who knows where an app can go?

Also, this does not prevent a user to use their browser to get what they want as ATT does not prevent illicit material from coming over their signals.

I own everything from imacs to macbooks to iphone's, etc. all Apple. But unfortunately, Apple was a $$$ supporter of gay "marriage" in 2008 and I also believe makes donations to Planned Parenthood. This only came to light in 2008 as Apple usually stays out of the political fray...

Too bad there is still a play boy, maxim, and SI Swim Suit app for the iphone, but it is a start.

I still use a Zen Creative. :hehe: Never could justify the extra money for an iPod to myself. Although that was a few years ago now. These days I'm not sure there are viable alternatives anymore.
In any case, I don't use MP3 players much anymore.
