I miss America being what it used to be. Or should I say what it's supposed to be. Sadly not even my parents were around when it was.

Not that I am throughly constitutionally driven- mind you.

The 22nd amendment would have to be modified or repealed:

Ironically it was the Republican Congress that got the amendment passed to prevent Democrats from getting more FDR length terms.

That amendment is for elections in a row. He could run again. I just wish we could get a president who was pro-life, and also had more than a room temperature IQ.

Yeah, Obama struck out on both of those.

Turns out term limits are a good thing.
Perhaps we ought to have congressional term limits?

I think it is too simple of an answer to suggest term limits. It is not a problem with our governmental structure or with the specific elected officials, though there are problems with them and I could come up with a few suggestions on possible changes. Term limits won't solve anything and wouldn't really limit corruption. The problem is with the prevailing culture of utilitarianism and pragmatism and the fact that people do not live as if there are great universals that make daily actions important and give such actions meaning. This is the problem, not that we don't have term limits. The term limits would solve nothing, the culture and mindset must be changed if things are to change in America.

Congress is complicated. It takes time to really understand how things work. Term limits would simply take the power out of elder statesmen senator types, and put them into the hands of career legislative aids. I'm not saying that would be bad, but that is how it would work, and we don't get to vote on those guys.

That ain't even funny. It's bad enough having Bush III in office right now.

My choice for 2012.

Obama is not a communist. The merging of corporations and the State is known as fascism, and Bush was just as much as a fascist as Obama. He simply didn't have enough time to show it when the economy went through Stage 1 of the current collapse. Did some people forget his prescription welfare program? "No Child Left Behind?" The fact that Bush bailed out the mismanaging, irresponsible and crooked CEOs before Obama did the same thing again? The fact that it was under Bush's watch that the money supply was doubled in a matter of months? (I'm really looking forward to the future consequences of that move.) Bush would have inflicted on the economy exactly the same things that Obama did if he had been in power for a couple months longer. Just like Obama is doing the same thing as Bush with Israel, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and ensuring that Guantanamo is kept open. Oh, and staying away from the issues of abortion and firearms as much as possible, too.
