Seminary Suggestions?

Ok, Question for anyone who has been to, or finished seminary. I would like opinions and suggestions of where to go. I'm looking for a nice conservitive, traditional, one. I would like to learn from other people's experiences. Tell me which ones are bad, which ones are good. Because I'm seriously considering becoming a priest. Advise would be nice. Thank you.

I go to school with some great seminarians from St. Joseph's Seminary. It is orthodox, and has been getting progressively more so over the last 4 years.

There's a seminary at the Mount in Emmitsburg, Maryland that is worth checking out. I went to school with the pre-theologians (the philosophy department was shared by both the college and the seminary). It's a good, solid seminary.

I don't have any direct experience with seminaries really, but if you choose to be a diocesan priest, the diocese will decide where to send you, you don't normally get to pick. If you join a religious order, they decide.

In other words:

1. Seminary or not.
2. Bishop.
3. The bishop sends you to a seminary.
(Taken from a priest's comment on a friend's ponderings about the priesthood and seminary.)

Morostheos made a good point. Often each diocese sends their men to certain seminaries. It's probably a good idea to ask the vocation director in your diocese or talk to your priest.

YES one of the best in the country! I know some seminarians who have gone to different seminaries and then come to the Mount and say that there is a lot more emphasis on prayer at the Mount seminary.

It's the [url=http://thedivinemercy.org/shrine/about.php]National Shrine of the Divine Mercy[/url] in Stockbridge, MA. You can go there on pilgrimage - it's very much open to the public.


Oh, and I agree with [b]Morostheos[/b] - seminarians go where they are sent when they become seminarians. They don't get to choose their seminary. That being said, you can learn about your diocese's current seminarians, see where they are sent, and then go check that out. If it doesn't seem a good match for you, you might want to look at the orders, and find one that [i]is[/i] a good match.

In other words, 'Which seminar(ies) do you send your seminarians to?' should be one of your standard questions in the discernment process.

But if you go to minor seminary, don't you get to chose that? That was the impression I always got, but I could be mistaken.

my diocese sends all the minor seminarians to st. john vianney in minnesota...so you may not get to choose
