truthfinder Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I think they're like the old Carmelites of Charity (or someting to that effect) habit. Congrats on the tag Vee!

Tridenteen Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 JMJ The sisters look Eastern European. Their facial features are very distinct in that manner. Sorry to sound weird, but my family is like that, we look EE....and I know quite a few poles/slavs whho have similar facial characteristics.

Nunsense Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010
I think they're like the old Carmelites of Charity (or someting to that effect) habit. Congrats on the tag Vee!
I don't think so. The Vedrunas didn't have the pointed headpiece.
the style of the veil is similar to the old Maryknoll habit. I think it was pointed in the front like these are
Yeah, but they didn't have the same white neckpiece (toque for Carmelites). This is a mystery and Tridenteen is probably right - the search would have to widen more. i don't know if I have the time to pursue it though... I did find some similar nuns in the US - but it was an old photo pre-Vat 2, not a new one.
morostheos Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 So, I think I might have found it! Although I can't find any recent pictures of them, they sure do look like the Sisters of Saint Joseph from this Facebook Page What do you all think?
Close, but they're still pretty different. The toque is much closer to the neck and the point on the top is much pointier/more defined. My best guess is this is a community in Poland somewhere. I believe there are many Polish communities that still wear the full veil, http://www.travelblo...g/Photos/516131
I don't think so.
I heard back from the Formator (Novice Mistress) - she is happy that I applied. Now I just wait on the Chapter vote.... Carmelites take their time about these things.. you know, prayer and all that. I'm happy with the Church Militant tag for now though! Edited September 8, 2010 by nunsense
ksterling Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 These are definitely NOT American nuns - I think in the year I have been discerning I have looked ate every single order in the US and I've never seen this. I am pretty sure we will find that they are European - possibly Canadian but I think European is a better bet. MAybe Polish - those Polish nuns do seem to have an affinity for odd headgear. Kat

Kat
You're probably right, and since the photo came from a UK newspaper, these nuns could be from anywhere in Europe. I just don't have time to look up all the websites for nuns in the UK and Europe looking for them. It does seem to be a pre-vat 2 photo though.
Chiquitunga Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 (edited) So I found this here in a google image search for Katolickich siostry (warning .. you can get some crazy images doing this) .. but it's still pretty different
MAybe Polish - those Polish nuns do seem to have an affinity for odd headgear.
Yes! (nothing against these dear sisters though .. actually I think I know someone who was in this congregation in Poland below ..) TradMom Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 +Praised be Jesus Christ! I tend to agree with all above - although just to be "different" - I would add that I believe these Sisters are most likely some sort of active Carmelite nuns. Pax, TradMom
vee Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 While Triddy drives us up the wall trying to guess the mystery nuns I offer a brief intermission. Guess which Order these nuns belong to and I will say a Hail Mary for you!
